Spectrum Wine’s Autumn 2011 Auction In Hong Kong Will Feature “The Majestic Cellar: Property Of A Passionate New York Connoisseur,” Bringing Once-In-A-Lifetime Rare Bottles And Large Formats To The Auction Block

(September 8, 2011; IRVINE, CA)—Spectrum Wine Auctions is set to capture international attention amongst wine collectors on September 24 and 25, 2011 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Hong Kong, when it offers a once-in-a-lifetime single-owner collection. “The Majestic Cellar: Property of a Passionate New York Connoisseur” comes from a highly respected New York consignor who has spared no expense to obtain wines boasting perfect provenance. Over 700 lots with a pre-sale estimate of over US$2 million (HK$17.1 million) will be the heart of an incredible two-day sale. The entire event features a total of 1,606 lots of rare and collectible wines, and carries a pre-sale estimate of nearly US$6 million (HK$46.8 million). Richard Brierley, head of fine wine at Vanquish Ltd., will preside as auctioneer. Bidding begins at 11 a.m. on both days.

 

“The consignor of the ‘Majestic Cellar’ spent the past 25 years searching the world for the rarest of rare wines,” says Spectrum Wine Auctions President, Jason Boland. “Our team worked tirelessly to secure this collection, which is one of extraordinary magnitude and scope. We expect collectors to come out of the woodwork to bid on these rare bottles.”

The “Majestic Cellar” spans offerings of Domaine de la Romanée Conti, of which there are over 250 bottles, including numerous 1990 DRC assortments, 200 bottles of Screaming Eagle and an astounding array of white Burgundy. The consignor is known for having a larger-than-life personality and a penchant for large format bottles. Bidders will encounter large format bottles of 1995, 2000 and 2005 Lafite Rothschild, imperials (6L) of 1995 and 1998 Latour, 2000 Mouton Rothschild, 1996 Margaux,2005 Pétrus, a salmanazar (9L) of 2005 Ausone and four jeroboams (3L) of 1990 Hermitage La Chapelle. The consignment also features rare Madeira.

Additionally, the sale features nearly 100 lots of Pétrus, 80 lots of Lafite Rothschild, 70 lots of Mouton Rothschild and large quantities of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. “The Blue Chip Cellar,” a prominent collection from a repeat New York-based consignor which has been the source of some of the top wine auction lots over the past decade, carries a pre-sale estimate of US$350,000 (HK$2.7 million), and includes 2008 Bordeaux from Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux, Mouton Rothschild, Pétrus and Lafleur, as well as 2006 Mouton Rothschild. “The Carolina Collection,” carries a pre-sale estimate of US$700,000 (HK$5.4 million) and includes multiple cases of Lafite Rothschild 1970 to 1986, Latour 1961 to1990, Mouton Rothschild 1961 to 2003, Pétrus 1964 to 1999 and Le Pin 1985 to 1997.
