95 JD. "The 2014 Tsundere is an interesting blend of 51% Syrah, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Tannat that spent 18 months in 228- and 300-liter barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. I remember tasting the first vintage of this cuvée, which has always been a bruiser, but in 2014 it shows another level of polish and finesse, with lots of black and blue fruits, crushed violets, earth and hints of leafy herbs aromas and flavors. Deep, rich, and concentrated, with building tannin, this full-bodied powerhouse is going to have a long life. Another estate I’ve raved about for years is Viquel and Scott Hawley’s Torrin Vineyard. These are unquestionably big, rich, Paso-styled wines, but they continue to get more and more elegance into their wines, while not sacrificing texture and richness. These latest 2014s are sensational. In addition, while I couldn’t taste the wines, they’ve also started a new Lagom label focused on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay." Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, Aug 2017 |
