93 WA. "Cropped at a modest 32 hectoliters per hectare, the 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes unfurls in the glass with an enticing bouquet of ripe cherries, dark chocolate, spices and espresso roast. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with a textural attack, excellent depth and dimension at the core and velvety structuring tannins. It's a real success in the gourmand style of the vintage. Dominique Le Guen directs this 8.4-hectare estate, a domaine of increasing interest in Chambolle-Musigny that is now bottling its entire production. The grapes are entirely destemmed and given a cold soak before a maceration of two to three weeks. Gentle pressing is followed by élevage in restrained percentages of new oak. The style here is gourmand, broad shouldered and fleshy—an aesthetic that worked very well in the inherently elegant, supple 2017 vintage—but retains freshness and finesse. Given the level of quality now being attained at this address, to say nothing of its enviable palette of appellations, readers should take notice." Wine Advocate Interim, Jan 2019 |
