91+ JG. "The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin “Vieilles Vignes” from Philippe Harmand is absolutely classic in profile on both the nose and palate. The bouquet delivers a fine blend of cassis, dark berries, grilled meats, black minerality, espresso, gentle smokiness and a discreet base of new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite sappy at the core, with fine underlying terroir, suave, seamless tannins and a very long, precise and tangy finish. This will drink sooner than the very good Clos Prieur here, but should age just as long. Fine, fine juice." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2017, Issue #72 |
