91 RP. "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside and Benchland Vineyards (aged 19 months in French oak) is a beauty. This serious Cabernet Sauvignon showcases just how good Cabernet can be from Dry Creek, although most readers would agree it is better known for Zinfandel. Dense ruby/purple, loads of black cherry, blackcurrant and dusty/loamy soil notes are present in this medium to full-bodied, concentrated and powerful wine. Alcohol is listed at 14.5%, but it may possibly be slightly higher. This is a blockbuster, full-bodied, impressively endowed Cabernet Sauvignon . . . . One of the historic wineries, Dry Creek is among the pioneers in the movement for high-quality Zinfandels. I met the original owner, David Stare, before I even started the Wine Advocate in 1978, so that gives you an idea of how far back both of us go." Wine Advocate #223, Mar 2016 |
