Lot #305. Ceretto Barolo 2011

Description: Consists of 2 Bottles, 0.75L
Region: Italy, Piedmont, Barolo.
Score: 93 WA.
"The 2011 Barolo (with fruit sourced from various vineyard sites and assembled later) is both aromatic and intense. This is a common link that you find across the 2011 vintage with Nebbiolo grape no matter what the desired level of ripeness achieved by the vintner. In this case, the wine shows no jammy, overripe characteristics. Instead, it is well constructed with firm tannins and a thick core of black fruit complexity. This wine made from blended fruit ultimately shows a greater degree of control and management in terms of its ripeness. This set of wines from the Barbaresco and Barolo appellations represents a new chapter in Ceretto's long winemaking history. You will notice that the names of the wines have been modified to reflect the official Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive that now characterize these two important wine regions. Ceretto's Barbaresco offerings include a base wine plus vineyard-specific wines from Asili (the Barbaresco township) and Bernardot (Treiso). The line of Barolo wines include one base wine in addition to four other wines representing the Bricco Rocche, Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo and Praprò crus respectively. In addition to these bureaucratic tweaks, I am firmly convinced that these wines better respect their territorial identity, and offer a cleaner and more profound taste of Nebbiolo. Ceretto has been doing excellent work lately." Wine Advocate #225, Jun 2016
