100 DM. "Tasted with Jean-Louis Chave in his cellar. One of the greatest Rhône wines I've ever tasted, this wine began with the most incredible soaring fragrance that comes roaring out of the glass: firework smoke, bonfires, cigar smoke, black truffle, smoked meats. It had a tangy side to the acidity, the flavours given lift by a little oxidative punch. The fruit was on the palate - blackcurrant, raspberry and raspberry leaf, alongside the complex smoky display. So vibrant still on the palate, with little pixelated tannins and a saline kick on the finish. I don't often give 100 point scores, but on tasting this you can't help but feel anything else would be an outrage." Matt Walls, Decanter Magazine, Dec 2019 |
