94 JG. "It had been a year since I last crossed paths with a bottle of the 2000 Philip Togni Cabernet, which readers will recall, was the first vintage where Lisa Togni returned to the winery full-time to work alongside of her father. This bottle was even a hair better than last year’s, as it offers up an outstanding nose of cassis, black cherries, cigar smoke, incipient notes of chipotle peppers, a fine, complex base of soil and a discreet base of bit of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and rock solid at the core, with the first signs of blossoming maturity starting to unfold, lovely focus and grip and still just as bit of backend, mountain cabernet tannins perking up the long and impressive finish. I love the Togni family’s cabernets!" John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2015, Issue #58 |
