96 WA. "Coming from 100% Olmo clone from a single block of Larkmead Vineyard, the very deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga offers up profound notes of baked blackcurrants, blackberry compote, plum preserves and cedar chest with hints of chocolate box, vanilla pod, lilacs and cloves plus a waft of Indian spices. Full-bodied and concentrated in the mouth, it has wonderfully plush, seductive tannins and just enough freshness to support the generous fruit, finishing long and spicy. [Only] 204 cases were made. The Rivers-Marie label was started by Thomas Rivers Brown and Genevieve Marie Welsh in 2002, the name being an amalgamation of their middle names. Their focus remains to create the highest quality wines from single varieties. In 2009, they added a single-vineyard program to the portfolio. During our tasting, Thomas informed me that there will not be an Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet for 2017—this fruit was sadly still hanging during the fires that year." Wine Advocate Interim, July 2019 |
