95+ WA. "The 2015 Cornas Vin Noir, from 100-year-old vines, is a tour de force. Crushed stone and violets set the stage for this full-bodied wine that’s loaded with cassis and plum fruit but hemmed in tightly by firm tannins. Give it at least 7 years of rest in a cool cellar. At the caveau price of 40 euros, it’s a bargain. Vigneron Stéphane Robert maintains a small little caveau in the town of Saint-Péray, but the real action takes place up at his winery in the hills overlooking the town. His holdings include bits of Saint-Péray, Saint-Joseph and Cornas, where he has three parcels of vines that are over 100 years old. Interestingly, he says, “2016 is less structured but just as concentrated as 2015.”" Wine Advocate #234, Dec 2017 |
