91 JG. "The 1989 Vaucrains, echoing a frequent refrain for a Chevillon wine, is a superb example of the vintage. In this day and age, it is the rare 1989 red Burgundy that continues to deliver the pleasures at the same level that it did ten years ago. The nose is quite ripe, but offers a beautiful potpourri of black cherries and plums, a bit of menthol, grilled venison, charred wood, minerals and mature Nuits tones of walnuts. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, lush and balanced, with good depth in the mid-palate, melting tannins, reasonable acids for a 1989, and fine length on the stylish finish. Most enjoyable and even more impressive in the context of the vintage." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jan/Feb 2006, Issue #1 |
