91 JG. "The Dellchen vineyard seems to be getting stronger and stronger with each passing year in the hands of Herr Dönnhoff, and when I asked him about this, he noted that he had to replant the entire parcel after he bought it, and the vines are now just beginning to reach a good age. His first release from the Dellchen was 1995, and with each subsequent vintage the wine has gotten finer and developed more filigree. The 2005 Dellchen Spätlese is a lovely wine which is cut in a much more delicate style than the two above wines, as it offers up a complex bouquet of apple, peach, a bit of petrol, and gentle soil tones. On the palate the wine is medium-full, discreet and quite elegant, with good mid-palate depth, fine focus, rather understated acidity, and a lovely long finish. This is another fine bottle of wine . . ." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2006, Issue #4 |
