Spectrum Wine Auctions Hosts Summer Auction of Fine and Rare Wines

Spectrum Wine Auctions to Hold Third Auction of Fine and Rare Wines

Simultaneously June 25 in Costa Mesa and June 26 in Hong Kong

Auction to Offer 575 Lots with a Pre-Sale Estimate of $3.5 Million

(June 08, 2010; Irvine, CA)—Spectrum Wine Auctions, which debuted to the international wine market last fall as a new major player, will hold its next fine and rare wine live auction simultaneously on Friday, June 25 at Charlie Palmer at Bloomingdale’s South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., at 6 p.m. PDT, and on Saturday, June 26 at the Peninsula Hotel in Kowloon, Hong Kong, at 9 a.m. HKT.

Spectrum Group International, a Fortune 500 Company, launched its wine auction division last July and held its first wine auction last November, featuring the cellar of Aubrey McClendon, one of the greatest American wine collectors and co-founder and CEO of Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK). The sale was enormously successful with 100 percent of the lots sold, tallying nearly $3.5 million. The firm’s second sale took place in April with similar success, this time reaching in excess of $3.5 million. The upcoming June auction is a high-value lot sale with several rarities as well as an abundance of 100-point Parker wines, with 575 lots estimating $3.5 million. Bidders will have the opportunity to bid live, via fax and telephone, and via the internet in real time at www.spectrumwine.com. Bidders are encouraged to attend in person and enjoy the excitement of the auction room as director of client services Amanda Keston takes the gavel. Small bites and various wines will be offered throughout the session. Attendance is open to the public and is free of charge.

“We’re thrilled to be presenting our third live auction simultaneously at two prestigious locations on both sides of the Pacific Ocean,” says Jason Boland, president of Spectrum Wine Auctions. “This reflects our growing audience of domestic and international buyers, and allows us to showcase the state-of-the-art technology that our parent company, Spectrum Group International, has developed in our experience with other collectibles auctions. It allows us to provide an auction experience that is not only memorable, but superior to anything collectors have experienced before from a fine wine auction house,” he adds.

Highlights of the June auction include a third installment from Mr. McClendon’s collection, featuring an incredible selection of more than 1,600 bottles in full-case quantities and a variety of formats, most purchased as futures or on release and kept in their original wooden cases. All wines have been housed in temperature and humidity-controlled storage. In addition to several 100-point Parker wines up for auction from the collection, including 1982 and 1986 Château Mouton Rothschild, 1996 and 2003 Château Lafite Rothschild, and 1997 and 2001 Harlan, other fine properties for sale include Château Haut Brion from 1945-2006, Château Latour spanning 1928-2006, a full cadre of Domaine de la Romanée Conti from 1953-2005, and Screaming Eagle from 1995-2007.

Other highlights include: a Nebuchadnezzar (15L) of 2005 Château d'Yquem in original presentation wood case, numbered #28 out of 100 ($17,500); a full case of 1978 Romanée Conti, Domaine de la Romanée Conti, in its original wooden case ($150,000); a Methuselah (6L) of 2005 La Tâche, Domaine de la Romanée Conti ($55,000); and a case of 1961 Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle in its original wooden case ($80,000).
