94 JG. "The 1979 Mount Eden Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the finest examples of this vintage I have had the pleasure to taste in many years. The deep, complex and beautifully proportioned bouquet wafts from the glass in a fine blend of black cherries, plums, woodsmoke, heather, fresh sage, a touch of chocolate, stony soil tones and tobacco leaf. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bdoied and very soil-driven in personality, with a rock solid core, superb complexity and balance, still a bit of tannin to resolve and outstanding length and grip on the focused and very classy finish."
