91 JG. "The ’70 Forts de Latour is a beautiful bottle of wine that is now fully into its plateau of maturity. The bouquet is deep and classic Pauillac, as it jumps from the glass in a blend of mint, ripe black cherries, plums, tobacco, a bit of espresso, Latour earth tones and a framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and complex, with an excellent backbone, fine focus and grip, and just a bit of ripe tannin still perking up the wine on the long finish. This is a great bottle from the heyday of Latour, when the Forts de Latour bottling was clearly the equivalent of a second growth. Superb wine." View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2006, Issue #4 |
