93+ JG. "The 2007 Grands Echézeaux is another gloriously perfumed and transparent middleweight in the making, as it offers up a beautiful aromatic mélange of cherries, raspberries, orange zest, coffee, duck, complex soil tones and spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and again, very pure, with fine mid-palate depth, superb intensity of flavor, and great focus on the complex, moderately tannic and quite tangy finish. This is much more of a laser beam of pure red fruit and glorious soil tones than is typical with this cru, which normally will be a bit more broad-shouldered and voluptuous in personality. I think I like this utterly refined style of the 2007 even better than normal. A superb wine in the making." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jan/Feb 2009, Issue #19 |
