Lot #1497. Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 1981

Description: Consists of 1 Jeroboam, 3L
Score: 96 NM.
". . . at 30-years of age the Beaucastel '81 continues to delight, this being the finest bottle I have encountered. A blissful bouquet of blackcurrant, leather, bacon fat, Cepes and a touch of blueberry that is so remarkably youthful and vibrant and no, it had very little of the brettanomyces that this wine is infamous for. The palate does not disappoint: seamless tannins and an effortless sense of harmony, there is plenty of succulent black, peppery fruit . . . . This Chateauneuf-du-Pape deserves it lofty reputation. " Neal Martin, Wine Journal, May 2011
Provenance: The Tower Cellar
Notes: Chipped and wine stained wax capsule, inventory sticker on capsule, nicked and damp stained label, signs of slight past seepage.
