93 JG. "I drank quite a bit of ’81 La Mission in the decade of the 1990s, as the wine was really lovely . . . . I had not seen a bottle in a long, long time, but this most recent example was outstanding, offering up a deep and very classy nose of cassis, tobacco smoke, a touch of eucalyptus, dark soil tones, a bit of La Mission’s medicinal nuances and a nice framing of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and classy, with lovely focus and balance, melting tannins and outstanding length and grip on the à point and very complex finish. A lovely vintage of La Mission for current drinking and one of the top wines of the vintage." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jan/Feb 2015, Issue #55, |
