95 JD. "The 2017 Malbec Farrow Ranch comes from a dry farmed vineyard in the Alexander Valley and is 100% Malbec that was partially barrel fermented and aged in 80% new French oak. Blue fruits, lavender, violets, crushed stone, and classy oak all emerge from this beauty, which is medium to full-bodied and has notable purity, ripe yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. It's a concentrated yet balanced and fresh 2017 to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years or more. I continue to believe winemaker Jesse Katz produces some of the best Malbec coming out of the United States. The 2017 vintage was challenging for the entire north coast, but these are brilliant wines." Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, May 2020 |
