94 JG. "With the Coche family’s parcels here avoiding severe frost damage, this is a very traditionally proportioned bottle of Volnay Premier Cru and is not overtly powerful in personality in 2016. However, it is brilliant on both the nose and palate, with the complex bouquet offering up scents of red and black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, pigeon, chalky minerality, woodsmoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully suave on the attack, with a sappy core of fruit, beautiful soil signature, fine-grained tannins and a very long, complex and vibrant finish. Just a lovely bottle of Volnay." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #78, Dec 2018 |
