92 AG. "The 2008 Rosso di Montalcino emerges with layers of sweet, perfumed fruit followed by red rapsberries, spices and mint. Silky tannins frame the graceful finish. The 2008 is a relatively lithe vintage for the Rosso, but the balance and overall finesse are beyond reproach. Poggio di Sotto’s Rosso is one of my favorite restaurant wines. It truly is in a class of its own. In 2008 Palmucci gave the Rosso 23 months in cask . . . . This is another set of stunning wines from Poggio di Sotto and proprietor Piero Palmucci. I tasted everything in the cellar through 2010 and was deeply impressed. The only problem with these wines is their limited availability in the US. Hopefully that will change soon. Biodynamic farming, low yields and extended cask aging are the rule at this tiny jewel of a property." Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, May 2011 |
