92 JG. "I had never previously tasted one of the extant bottles of 1976, and the wine showed quite well indeed. There is a roasted tone to both the nose and palate that bears more than a bit of a resemblance to the 1990 in its current state, as the bouquet offers up notes of cassis, roasted meats, iodine, herb tones, a bit of damp woodsmoke, espresso and soil tones. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and powerful, with good depth at the core, and really quite polite and well-integrated tannins on the long, complex finish. This is quite an impressive 1976, and must have at one time been held in high esteem by Charles Rousseau . . ." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jun 2003 |
