96+ WA. "The 2014 Camaspelo is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (there's a splash of Tempranillo). It offers lots of red and chocolate-covered black currants, black cherry, black olive, tobacco and leafy herbs. It shows more fruit with time in the glass, has a full-bodied, ultra-pure, layered style and plenty of fine tannin. Forget bottles for 4-5 years and drink over the following two decades. I think the 2014 vintage from Christophe Baron will go down as one of the truly great vintages of the estate. The wines are notably deeper, richer and more concentrated than both the 2013s and 2015s, yet they have fabulous purity and elegance. While the ship has long since sailed with regards to getting on the mailing list, these are singular wines well worth the effort to track down on the secondary market." Wine Advocate #231, June 2017 |
