94 JG. "The 1996 Gruenchers from Domaine Dujac is a stunning bottle that is now entering its period of peak drinkability and offering up glorious complexity on both the nose and palate. The vibrant bouquet jumps from the glass in a blend of cherries, blood orange, beetroot, mustard seed, a touch of cocoa powder, gamebirds, woodsmoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and complex, with a sappy core of fruit, tangy acids, melting tannins and great length and grip on the stunning finish. A beautiful bottle of Chambolle that has just reached its zenith, but which should continue to delight the senses for decades to come." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #35, Oct 2011 |
