96 NM. "Tasted at the evening dinner in Southwold. The ’93 Grands Echezeaux from Engel epitomizes everything great about this overlooked vintage. It has a pure, heavenly bouquet of dried herbs and fresh, tensile red berries…the essence of pinote. The palate is perfectly balanced with super-fine tannins that lends it crispness and lightness of touch, a sense of weightlessness in the mouth. It expands beautifully in the glass: vibrant and harmonious with delicate tart red cherries and fresh strawberry on the mineral-rich finish. It’s all texture and transparency. Outstanding. Tasted January 2012." Neal Martin, Wine Journal, Jul 2012 |
