Lot #383. Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos la Néore 2008

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Region: France, Loire, Sancerre.
Score: 95+ JG.
"One of the most heart-warming things to happen in the last couple of years in Sancerre is the return of Edmond Vatan’s daughter, Anne Vatan, to assist her father with the winemaking at this iconic Chavignol estate. I believe that the 2008 vintage was the first that father and daughter made together, but it may have been the 2007. In any case, the 2008 is a beautiful bottle in the making. There is a dramatic stylistic difference between the very ripe and powerful 2009 Vatan Sancerre and the absolutely classic 2008, which weighs in at a very traditional 13.5 percent alcohol, rather than the 15 percent of the 2009. The nose on the 2008 Clos la Néore is brilliant, as it offers up a youthfully reserved mélange of lime, fresh mint, green apples, kaleidoscopic minerality, orange blossoms and fresh almonds. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, nascently complex and quite snappy, with a rock solid core, brilliant transparency, brisk acids and laser-like focus and cut on the very, very long, very youthful finish. A great, great vintage of the Vatan Sancerre." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jan/Feb 2011, Issue #31
