92 VM. "Bright red with a garnet-tinged rim. Sexy, clean aromas of floral red berries and red cherry complemented by exotic oak, milk chocolate and herbs. Rich, broad and full in the mouth, with a very sweet, almost syrupy flavor of blackberry complicated by hints of coffee, milk chocolate and sweet spices. Finishes with substantial creamy tannins and impressive length. This wine offers terrific palate coverage for a 1979, and it's still amazingly youthful. Steve Tanzer tells me this was quite a hot item among frugal Bordeaux fans in the '80s in New York City, with many wine lovers snapping it up by the case for about fifteen bucks a bottle. I wish I had known that at the time." Vinous, Jan 2012 |
