95 JG. "One sniff of the 1990 Charmes and it is easy to see why this is one of Jacky’s favorite vintages. This is a great example of the vintage, with none of the slightly overripe notes that have become common amongst many wines in the last several years. The wine soars from the glass in a blaze of plums, game, woodsmoke, coffee, intense soil tones, a bit of blood orange, and mustard seed. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and impressively tangy for the vintage, with a great core of fruit, melting tannins, and great grip and tangy on the stunningly long finish. This is one great bottle of 1990 Burgundy that still delivers one hundred percent of the early promise of this vintage." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Mar/Apr 2006, Issue #2 |
