95+ JG. "I had not tasted the 2005 Clos la Néore since visiting Edmond Vatan at the domaine in the summer of 2007, and the wine has progressed beautifully over the ensuing two years. The wine is still very young, but has not shut down and shows outstanding potential, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of lime, sweet grapefruit, a touch of oyster shell, mint, kaleidoscopic minerality and a topnote of fresh almond. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and very, very transparent, with brisk acids, a rock solid core of fruit, great focus and superb length and grip on the still quite primary finish. While it is not a crime to drink this wine today, I would wait at least another three to four years to allow it to really start to blossom. It should easily keep another twenty or more years, so there is emphatically no rush to drink it now." View From the Cellar, Sep/Oct 2009, Issue #23 |
