95 JG. "The ’98 Rousseau Chambertin must also be one of the top wines of the vintage, as it would have no difficulty at all holding its own in a flight of big time 1999s! The bouquet is utterly magnificent, offering up a complex mix of crystallized dark berry and plum fruit, notes of dark chocolate, mustard seed, minerals, violets and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, impeccably balanced, with laser-like focus, a sappy core of fruit, round, ripe tannins, and excellent length and grip on the aristocratic finish. In this tasting of top 1999s and 1998s, it is the comparable quality of the very best 1998s that is the real surprise. This is a great young bottle of wine."
