Lot #395. Brand Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Description: Consists of 1 Magnum, 1.5L
Packaging: OWC.
Score: 98 RP.
"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 21 months in 70% new French oak, is a small cuvée of just under 400 cases. It is certainly a magnificent wine with an inky purple color and a beautiful nose of blueberry, boysenberry and other black fruits interwoven with white flowers, and backed up by fabulous concentration, a multilayered mouthfeel and tremendous purity. Lots of Cabernet’s classic cassis fruits are present and the new oak component pushed well to the background because of the extravagant concentration and richness. This wine comes from a vineyard slightly higher than the nearby Colgin Estate IX Vineyard, which it backs up to. This is a large estate of over 100 acres, but only 12 vineyard acres are planted at a 1,300-foot elevation above Lake Hennessy on Pritchard Hill. I’ve reviewed the 2012s very favorably and on this visit had a look at their magnificent 2013s and very fine 2014s. It’s not a gross generalization to say that almost every hillside vineyard on Pritchard Hill seems to be churning out sensational wines. This location was first exploited with great success by the Chappellet family, who are still producing top-quality wine, but the neighborhood has certainly gotten a lot more crowded over the last 45-50 years since they started there."
