95 JG. " The 2005 Hermannshöhle Spätlese is another legendary bottle in the making. The bouquet is deep, pure and very soil-driven, soaring from the glass in a blend of sweet grapefruit, lychee, stunning slate minerality and just a touch of spice. On the palate the wine is medium-full, deep and rapier-like, with a rock solid core of fruit, a firm girdle of acidity, laser-like focus, and a profound long finish. This is just a bit reserved out of the blocks, but will prove to be a brilliant addition to the cellar. I expect after an initial open window of drinkability, this will close for a few years before reemerging in all its glory." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2006, Issue #4 |
