95 JG. "The 1971 Clos du Bourg Premier Trie is a beautiful bottle of wine that is just now really beginning to reach its apogee and shows every signs of continuing to dazzle for at least another fifty years! The magnificent bouquet soars from the glass in a blend of cherries, apricots, peaches, new leather, plenty of chalky soil tones, honeycomb and tart oranges. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and racy, with an amazing, youthful vibrancy, stunning complexity, and a very snappy and almost painfully youthful girdle of acidity on the backend of this monumental and very, very long wine. As this wine has so much in reserve, I may well be woefully underestimating it and may need to push this up another two or three points once another decade or two has unfolded. A great Clos du Bourg." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #12, Dec 2007 |
