90 JG. "The 1973 Spring Mountain cabernet is a step up from the laid back 1977, as it offers better structural integrity and more complexity. The fine nose jumps from the glass in a complex blend of mint, dark berries, cassis, chipotle peppers, nutskins, lovely soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very well-balanced, with a fine core, still a bit of tannin perking up the finish and fine length and grip. This is a lovely example of the fine 1973 vintage, with plenty of life still in it." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, May/Jun 2011, Issue #33 |
