93 JG. "While I have had the good fortune to drink dozens and dozens of bottles of the 1983 Château Cantemerle over the years, this was the first time that I can recall having a bottle of the 1982! This is a superb wine that is unfairly overlooked when great vintages of this estate’s wines are mentioned, and I strongly recommend searching this wine out in the marketplace. The 1982 is at its absolute apogee of peak maturity and drinking with great style, as it offers up scents of sweet dark berries, cigar smoke, cardamom, a Latour-like whiff of sweet walnut, dark soil tones, cedar and a whisper of beeswax in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and absolutely à point, with melting tannins, lovely focus and grip and a long, pure and seamlessly balanced finish. A superb wine."
