96+ JG. "The 2005 Clos la Néore is a brilliant young bottle of Sancerre, and seems clearly destined to be one of Monsieur Vatan’s greatest legacies. The beautiful nose is at once deep and powerful, and yet ethereal at the same time, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of green apple, pear, mint, fresh almond, a stunning base of both hard limestone and crystalline minerality, a bit of fresh-mown grass and a haunting topnote of spring flowers. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and laser-like in its focus, with a rock solid core of fruit, a brisk girdle of acidity, and stunning length and grip on the palate-staining, soil-driven finish. This wine is supremely elegant on the backend, and yet possesses rapier-like length and grip." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #10, Aug 2007 |
