93-94 JG. "The 2004 Clos des Ducs is reasonably open on the nose, but the door is still slammed shut on the palate. The nose offers up a fine, primary blend of red berries, quince, a bit of blood orange, coffee, strong soil tones, herbs, vinesmoke and delicate violets. On the palate the wine is fullish, very complex for a young wine and beautifully balanced, with a rock solid core of fruit, and a very long, very closed finish. The acids here give the wine a beautiful, tensile quality, and the ripe tannins are just buried in the structure of the wine. This will be excellent." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #1, Feb 2006 |
