Lot #241. François Lamarche Vosne Romanée La Croix Rameau 2005

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Score: 90-93 AM.
"An equally cool if different nose features aromas of ripe dark raspberry, cassis and spice notes that complement perfectly the rich, round and seductive flavors that possess excellent dry extract levels and terrific detail on the refined if not overly powerful flavors underpinned by buried tannins and superb length. Like the Suchots and Chaumes comparison, it's really rare for a Croix Rameau to best a fine Malconsorts but at this stage the Croix Rameau appears to have a slight edge. François Lamarche told me that ‘2005 was about as ideal a growing season as one could reasonably hope for. Yes, there was a bit of early season hail that touched certain of our parcels, particularly the Echézeaux but it was so early that it was a quantity issue, not quality. Overall yields were about normal because there were no sorting losses with excellent sugars and we chaptalized nothing. The fermentations were easy as the yeasts ate the sugar quickly and the extractions were also easy as the skins were thick. Essentially, it was almost a cruise control vintage where everything went as planned. I think the style of the vintage will please everyone from the casual Burgundy lover to the hard-core enthusiast, plus the wines will age well.’ Lamarche said that he would probably start bottling in December for the lower level wines and continue through February for the grands crus, without fining or filtration.” Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Jan 2007
