97+ JG. "This is an utterly profound young vintage of Valmur. Jean-François notes that the combination of high potential alcohol and acidity that defined the 1996 vintage in Chablis is very rare, and this is a vintage that will make old bones. The bouquet is deep and very complex, with much more depth and purity than the superb 1999. Scents of lemon oil, apple, a bit of pink grapefruit, intense minerality, floral tones and blossoming notes of paraffin make this a great nose. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and laser-like, with a rock solid core of fruit, flawless structure, and profound length and grip on the snappy finish. This could easily go forty years in the cellar, and though it is already very delicious, it should emphatically not be touched for at least anoterh decade."
