89-92 ST. "Bright medium ruby. Very spicy, high-pitched aromas of black fruits, mint and clove oil. Sweet and nicely concentrated, with strong spice and licorice pastille flavors currently holding the upper hand over fruit notes of blueberry, blackberry and cherry pie. Finishes with firm tannins and lingering dark berry and chocolate notes. This was Celia Welch's first vinification here, after taking over for Heidi Barrett during the summer of 2010. Welch told me she is cutting back on the use of Boutes barrels here." Vinous, May 2012 |
