Chanin Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict 2018, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills, California

"There are just seven barrels of the 2018 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict, which is from one of the top sites in the Sta. Rita Hills. Fermented with 35% whole clusters and aged 19 months in 30% new oak, it has lots of salty red and black fruits, earth, forest floor, and spicy aromas and flavors, medium to full body, a stunning texture, great mid-palate depth, and enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring. It's a real “wow” Pinot Noir and easily the finest wine I've tasted from this estate." 98 Points Jeb Dunnuck

Arnot-Roberts Pinot Noir Legan Vineyard 2018, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Santa Cruz Mountains, California

“The 2018 Pinot Noir Legan Vineyard is a wine of exquisite beauty and precision. Bright red fruit, wild flowers, mint and blood orange all pulse through this taut, beautifully precise Pinot from Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts. All the elements are impeccably balanced throughout. Gracious and perfumed, the 2018 will drink well for a number of years. I would prefer to cellar it a bit first, although that will clearly require a bit of willpower.”" 94 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Chambolle Musigny, Burgundy

"From a warm site that typically produces the most accessible of Berthod's premiers crus, the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns soars from the glass with aromas of ripe raspberries and cherries that mingle with nuances of licorice, rose petals and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and generous, with a gourmand and expressive core of fruit, velvety tannins and succulent balancing acids. Reminiscent of Barthod's terrific 2000, this will be hard to resist in its youth, but it should see out its 20th birthday in style." 92-94 Points William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Chambolle Musigny, Burgundy

"The 2017 Chambolle “Charmes” from Madame Barthod is truly a beautiful wine in the making. The bouquet is pure, refined and sappy, wafting from the glass in a vibrant mix of plums, cherries, violets, chalky soil tones, peonies, raw cocoa and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off excellent mid-palate depth, with lovely focus and grip, suave tannins and a very long, primary and sappy finish. This is a beautiful bottle in the making, but I would try to leave it alone for a full decade and let it completely blossom before starting to have at it in earnest, for underneath the beautifully sappy fruit is a wine with a very good structural chassis." 93+ Points John Gilman, View From the Cellar

Piedrasassi Syrah Rim Rock Vineyard 2011, 0.75L
Syrah from Arroyo Grande Valley, California

"The 2011 Syrah Rim Rock Vineyard continues to take shape beautifully in bottle. Today, it is the wine's intense, almost jammy fruit that stands out most, while more savory varietal notes emerge, but only with reluctance. Hints of tar and licorice wrap around the fleshy palate. Lady of the Sunshine Sauvignon Blanc / Chardonnay Chevey Oliver's Vineyard 2019, 0.75L
Sauvignon Blanc / Chardonnay from Edna Valley, California

"A collaborative effort in practicing organic farming at Oliver's Vineyard in Edna Valley, owned by Talley Vineyards.  This block was planted in 1991 and is located on the southwest side of the valley, four miles from the coast on a mix of sandy clay loam soils.  This playful blend is inspired by the traditional blends of the Cheverny region.  The two varietals were harvested on the same day and foot tread and soaked on skins overnight before being whole bunch pressed separately.  The juice was fermented with native yeast in neutral french oak barrels and aged on lees for 8 months before its first racking to blend before bottling, unfined and unfiltered. Think lime zest, tangerine marmalade, & orchard bloom with a briny kick." Producer Notes, Lady of the Sunshine

"Cubillo spends three years in barrique and then in larger cask to await bottling, which happens two years before the expected release. This is very fresh on the nose with quite fresh, ripe blackberries and dark cherries, mahogany and dry, woody spices. The palate is very powerful, juicy and fresh with clear black cherries and plums in abundance. So fresh, fleshy and deep. The freshness is impressive. Long, shell-like tannins." 95 Points James Suckling

Charles Joguet Chinon Rosé 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Chinon, Loire

"I always get a little chuckle out of the fact that we tend to recommend this wine for picnics. This is serious rosé! You’ve got that trademark explosive fruit and Cabernet Franc spice and big, round body followed by the most thirst-quenching finish. Then again, I have to remind myself that the people who take this wine on picnics also take their picnics very seriously. Simple but sumptuous ingredients are surely de rigueur, making this rosé the perfect pairing." Importer Notes, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Domaine de Reuilly Reuilly Les Pierres Plates 2018, 0.75L
Sauvignon Blanc from Reuilly, Loire

"Once known as “poor man’s Sancerre,” the wines of Reuilly deserve a new moniker. “Bargain Sancerre” would be more appropriate, or we could just stop comparing the poor thing to Sancerre in the first place. Denis Jamain’s Pierres Plates is from his best Sauvignon Blanc vineyard, named after all the “flat” fossil-encrusted limestone rocks in its soil—soil he has worked organically for many years. This bottling is consistently one of the Loire’s finest Sauvignon Blancs, showing delicate lime and floral suggestions that sleekly envelop a chalky core. Enjoy it with oysters, with fresh goat cheese, or simply because it provides delightful refreshment at great value." Importer Notes, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Von Winning Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad Riesling Trocken #13 2016, 0.75L
Riesling from Ruppertsberg, Pfalz

"Smoky peppercorn, piquant peach kernel, nose-wrinkling ginger, boxwood and lemon peel as well as a toasty hint of oak make for a formidably forceful and complex nose. Happily, all of those aggressive notes are accompanied on a firm but subtly oily palate by juicy peach flesh and bright Meyer lemon. The finish activates the salivary glands and leaves the palate tingling and glowing in its evocation of salt, pepper, raw ginger and peach kernel. This ball of energy should prove fascinating to follow." 92 Points David Schildknecht, Vinous

Berthaut-Gerbet Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy

"Amélie’s Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits planted in 1970 on the plateau behind Vosne-Romanée. The topsoil here is shallow clay and limestone on limestone bedrock—quite typical for what one would find up on these plateaus. With rocky soils such as where this wine is grown, the tendency is to destem the grapes. You can expect tension and bones here along with a naturally high mineral frequency—a common occurrence in wines from these kinds of rocky sites. Its cement fermentation, old wood aging and early bottling also serve to confine the wine’s fantastic freshness to the finished product. Personally, I love drinking wines from vineyard parcels like this because they’re stripped down by the rocky terrain with their minerally-ness displayed at the forefront." Importer Notes, The Source

C. von Schubert Maximin Grünhaüser Riesling Sekt Brut #43 2016, 0.75L
Riesling from Mertesdorf, Ruwer

"Von Schubert's 2016 Maximin Grünhaus Riesling Sekt Brut was aged on the second lees for 25 months and was disgorged in May 2019 with the 2016 Herrenberg Spätlese as dosage. The wine opens with a terribly fresh, clear and intense "2016 nose" that is pure, complex and mineral in its spicy and yeasty aromas. On the palate, this is an intense, mouth-filling, pretty rich yet dry, tight and mineral Grünhaus Sekt with serious grip and mineral tension. It's a full-bodied, concentrated but refreshing, finessed and elegant sparkling wine with a long, complex and persistently salty finish. This is made for dinners rather than an aperitif, though you certainly can drink it any time. It tastes bone-dry, though it isn't. Tasted from AP 43 19 in June 2019." 92 Points Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

Jean Foillard Fleurie 2018, 0.75L
Gamay from Fleurie, Beaujolais

"As I wrote last year, it's an open secret that this is one of the region's finest as well as most consistent addresses, and followers of the estate won't be disappointed by the newly released 2018. Jean and Agnès Foillard's first vintage was in 1981, but it was in 1985 that Jean began to work differently, influenced by his neighbor, the late Marcel Lapierre. Lapierre followed négociant and microbiologist Jules Chauvet in rejecting selected yeasts and manipulative winemaking in favor of minimal effective sulfur dioxide and carbonic maceration at comparatively low temperatures. Today, Foillard remains true to that approach: His Morgon cuvées see some three weeks of maceration in tank before gentle pressing and élevage in used Burgundy barrels. Chaptalization is eschewed. He also gives his wines a little bottle age before release. Despite his identification with the natural wine movement, Foillard has no tolerance for slovenly winemaking practices or flawed wines, and his bottles are typically models of aromatic purity and graceful aging. I regularly purchase these wines for my own cellar and warmly recommend them to readers." William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Daniel Bouland Morgon Les Delys Vieilles Vignes de 1926 2018, 0.75L
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais

"There are some 6,600 bottles of Bouland's 2018 Morgon Les Delys Vieilles Vignes de 1926—a cuvée that readers shouldn't confuse with Bouland's new Delys bottling from younger vines that he used to blend into his Corcelette. Revealing a deep and complex bouquet that mingles blackberry and cassis fruit with nuances of smoke, rich soil tones and spice, the wine is deep, full-bodied and enveloping, saturating the palate with layer after layer of sapid fruit and velvety tannin, its imposing structural bones entirely hidden by copious flesh. As is often the case, this is a Morgon with more than a passing resemblance to a young Clape Cornas, and in its muscular stylist register, it's one of the finest cuvées being produced in the Beaujolais today." 96 Points William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

"From vines planted in sand—which is now indicated on the label—in 1927, Bouland's 2018 Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Sable unfurls in the glass with notions of ripe plums, red cherries, smokes meats, violets and black pepper. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, with a broad attack, considerable depth and dimension at the core, juicy acids and a long, intense finish. Aromas of blackberries and spices mingle with notes of rose petals, violets and potpourri in a bouquet that has taken on a discrete patina from its comparatively new foudre. Nervi-Conterno Il Rosato 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Piedmont, Piedmont

"Longtime Nervi devotees know the estate is famed for its Rosa—a pale, fragrant blend of Nebbiolo and a local grape called Uva Rara. But Roberto felt that an even more expressive rosé could be made by eliminating the Uva Rara. And he was right. But the wine is not only expressive of Nebbiolo, it also vividly communicates the nuance of Gattinara’s steep, high-elevation slopes and their volcanic gravel soils. And there’s something else that gives this noble terroir the potential to make world-class rosé: wide diurnal temperature swings, the warm days bringing the fruit to full ripeness, while the cool nights preserve freshness and acidity. The result is a delicate Nebbiolo of kaleidoscopic complexity, beautiful minerality and unusually long life. Don’t miss it." Importer Notes, Rare Wine Co.

Du Grappin Bourgogne Blanc 2017, 0.75L

Fermentation was done by native yeasts, as was malolactic conversion by naturally occurring lactic bacteria. Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Blanc 2019, 0.75L
Marsanne / Clairette Blanche / Trebbiano from Cassis, Provence

"Marsanne(51%) is the dominant grape variety complemented by Clairette Blanc (31%) and some Ugni Blanc (18%). The vineyards to produce the white wine at Bagnol cover a bit less than 9 hectares and are planted on a gentle slope of clay and limestone soil with a north – northwest exposure. After a manual harvest, the grapes are destemmed and pressed; the fermentation continues for three weeks in cement cuves at a temperature controlled 18 degrees Celsius; the wine is vinified completely dry. The malo-lactic fermentation is blocked to preserve the freshness of the wine and the wine is normally bottled at some point between May and July of the following year. Total annual production is on the order of 40,000 bottles; somewhere between 6,000 and 9,000 bottles per year are dedicated to the US market." Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Julian Haart Riesling 1,000L 2018, 0.75L

"As readers may recall, this bottling is produced by Julian at the behest of his New York importer, and it is one of the finest values for dry German Riesling to be found anywhere in the world! The 2018 version is 11.2 percent alcohol, carries 13 grams of residual sugar and has superb acidity of 9.2 grams per liter (which is quite high for the middle Mosel in 2018). The wine was bottled the day before my visit, but still showing marvelously, as it wafts from the glass in an excellent aromatic blend of tart orange, white flowers, salty minerality pink grapefruit and a discreet topnote of beeswax. Troplong Mondot 2019, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc from Saint-Émilion , Bordeaux

"The 2019 Troplong Mondot is a blend this year of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, harvested from the 10th to the 25th of September. The pH is 3.55—pretty incredible when you consider the alcohol is nearly 15%! I hasten to add that from tasting, I would have guessed this was 14.3% to 14.5% alcohol. It is the kind of wine with so much energy it practically does pirouettes on your palate. Opaque purple-black colored, the nose is fantastically floral, bursting from the glass with notes of candied violets, red roses and lavender over a core of plum preserves, wild blueberries and black raspberries with touches of garrigue, tilled soil, wild fungi and crushed rocks plus a waft of powdered cinnamon. The medium-bodied palate is like a tightly coiled spring, featuring beautifully knit layers of black and red fruits, earth and floral notes within a firm, fine-grained frame and bags of freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. This is a far cry from the old-school style of Troplong Mondot from a few years back, and it is incredibly impressive. This wine is aging in French oak barriques, some larger vats, and a small proportion is in amphorae. The oak portion is 60% new." 96-98 Points Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

Powerful, mineral-accented aromas of ripe red berries and citrus fruits, joined by a suave floral topnote that builds in the glass. Pape Clément 2019, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Sauvignon from Pessac Léognan, Bordeaux

"I loved the 2019 Château Pape Clement. This beautiful terroir in the heart of Pessac has produced and magical 2019. Stunning notes of crème de cassis, spring flowers, violets, crushed stone, and lead pencil and flow to a full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, elegant effort with great tannins and a rock star of a finish. It's a rich, powerful wine, yet it's the level of purity and elegance that sets it apart. Bravo! Tasted twice." 96-99 Points Jeb Dunnuck

Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc / Merlot / Petit Verdot from Pauillac, Bordeaux

"The 2019 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande was picked 16 September to 8 October. It has a showstopping nose: intense black fruit laced with graphite and mint. (Whisper it...it reminds me of their First Growth next door neighbor.) The palate is underpinned by very refined tannins that cradle what may well be the purest fruit you will find in this vintage. Unbelievably precise all the way through to the finish, I admit staring at my glass trying to find fault with it. Unless winemaker Nicolas Glumineau gets distracted by the new Cure album and makes a catastrophic error during the rest of its élevage, which he is not prone to doing, you are not looking at a modern-day 1982 or 2016, but something even better and more profound. Tasted from three bottles with consistent notes." 98-100 Points Neal Martin, Vinous

Domaine Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Gevrey Chambertin, Burgundy

"The lieu à dit of les Seuvrées also lies on the opposite side of the RN74 from the slope of premier and grand cru vineyards, but it is very well-situated on the Morey border, and much of its border across the road is with Mazoyrès-Chambertin. The 2017 from Laurent Lignier is another outstanding village wine, offering up a pure and complex bouquet of red and black cherries, mustard seed, complex soil tones, gamebird, a bit of cocoa, refined soil elements and a gentle framing of cedary wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with lovely purity on the attack, plenty of soil signature, suave tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish. Another truly exceptional Gevrey AC." 91+ Points John Gilman, View From the Cellar

Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Morey St. Denis, Burgundy

"The 2017 les Chaffots also has a bit of whole clusters in it this year, in this case twenty-five percent. This seems to be one of the best young examples of Chaffots I have had the pleasure to taste from the Lignier family, as the wine soars from the glass in a fine aromatic blend of red and black cherries, vinesmoke, venison, a very complex base of soil, mustard seed, stem spice and a bit of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and quite sappy at the core, with excellent focus and balance, ripe tannins and a long, poised and very promising finish. Chaffots is not always the most elegant premier cru out of the blocks, but this is not the case with this very refined 2017 version." 93 Points John Gilman, View From the Cellar

La Gaffelière 2019, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Franc from St. Emilion, Bordeaux

"The 2019 La Gaffelière is a distinctive Saint-Émilion, which should be inferred positively. There is something atypically very tertiary about the nose, beautifully defined and focused with plenty of fruit, yet very complex and cerebral. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and wonderful harmony. The silky texture belies the structure underneath and the finish is extraordinarily long. Ancient vintages of La Gaffelière like the 1961 are legendary. This ranks alongside them - the best I have ever tasted. Magnificent." 95-97 Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2019 Pichon-Longueville Baron is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, harvested from the 18th of September to the 11th of October. It is being aged in French oak barrels, 80% new, for 18 months. This grand vin represents 49% of the harvest. Very deep purple-black in color, the nose skyrockets from the glass with vibrant scents of freshly crushed blackberries, black raspberries and blackcurrant pastilles followed by perfumed sparks of fragrant earth, clove oil, lilacs, crushed rocks, molten chocolate and cinnamon toast. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with layer upon layer of black fruit, mineral and exotic spices, framed by beautifully ripe, finely-grained tannins and tons of freshness, finishing with a lingering soft-spoken whisper of floral and earth notions. This is an absolutely beguiling expression that is classic Pauillac and yet it is Pauillac like no other."

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Au Bout du Monde 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Burgundy

"Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey's vines are planted at 400 metres in a lieu-dit called 'Au Bout du Monde' and this must have felt like the end of the world 20 years ago. Now it's come into its own and has produced a salty, lip-smacking, lightly oaked white with the racy, crunchy focus you'd expect from an Hautes Côtes Chardonnay." 92 Points Tim Atkin, Decanter

"A discreet touch of wood frames a mildly exotic nose that includes white peach, tangerine peel and floral nuances. There is a bit more energy and minerality if less density to the delicious medium weight flavors that also conclude in a citrus-tinged and slightly firmer finale. Walter Scott Chardonnay La Combe Verte 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Willamette Valley, Oregon

"Our approach to Chardonnay pays attention to texture and structure, translating site and vintage. The La Combe Verte is fermented with 100% ambient yeast and full malolactic conversion in large barrels with very little bâtonnage. The wine is lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling to brighten aromatics and give us a polished finish. The result is an illuminating style of chardonnay, showcasing density and precision. The palate spotlights evolving layers of textures which follow the aromatic notes of lemon blossoms, with the finish offering a subtle mineral and saline character." Producer Notes, Walter Scott

Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from Côte Rôtie, Rhône

"A tasting of five different barrels, drawn from 24 blocks across 19 lieux-dits, mostly schist terroirs in Ampuis and St-Cyr. It's almost 100% whole bunch in 2017, with a minimal 15% of new oak used. Gerine is ripe and harmonious, with intense, sappy fruits and muscular tannins. Fongeant is sleek, dark and elegant. Le Plomb/Le Truchet takes tannin from the first site, acidity from the second and displays a soaring fragrance of burnt herbs. Tartaras/Bonnivières/top of Fongeant has incredible freshness and tight, fine tannins. Lastly, La Landonne, Côte Blonde, Moutonne and Côte Rozier has intense, tight, saline tannins and juniper and liquorice-tinged dark fruits. The overall impression is a powerful, ripe, structured and very fresh Côte-Rôtie, very well balanced with bright acidity, that will age impressively." 98 Points Decanter

Léoville-Poyferré 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from St. Julien, Bordeaux

"Deep and dark in color, the wine exudes flowers, tobacco, smoke, licorice and dark red fruit aromas. Full-bodied, lushly textured, round and fresh, the fruit has this beautiful, opulent, sensuous character. This is a good thing as it allows the cashmere tannins and layers of sweet, ripe, almost decadent berries to come alive, expand and really hang in there. If you are a fan of Leoville Poyferre, this needs to be in your cellar. Blending 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 14.1 alcohol. The harvest took place from September 20 to October 11.". 96-98 Points Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

"This is 100% whole bunch, hence it becomes the ‘Dr’ label in the pinots of Timo Mayer. Pepper and clove scents over ripe cherry, pomegranate juice and a whiff of Campari. Light Negroni-like flavours in the best kind of way, but the wine is fine-boned, sheathed in a leisurely web of skinsy tannin with pepper and green herb savourinesss accompanying fine, fresh, gently sweet-sour cherry and cranberry flavours. Château Pradeaux Bandol Rouge 2015, 0.75L
Mourvèdre from Bandol, Provence

"The magic of Château Pradeaux lies in its unfettered expression of Mourvèdre, that thick-skinned, late-ripening variety which sings in its full glorious range in Bandol’s Mediterranean-hugging vineyards. Pradeaux’s 18 hectares are the nearest to the sea in the entire appellation, and they tend to harvest a full two weeks later than their neighbors. Appellation law requires at least 50% Mourvèdre in a Bandol, and while many domaines hew closer to the minimum, cushioning their wine with hearty proportions of Grenache and Cinsault, Pradeaux produces a full-strength wine of 95% Mourvèdre." Cos d'Estournel 2019, 1.5L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from St. Estephe, Bordeaux

"A very powerful and structured Cos. It’s full and layered, but not overpowering in terms of fruit. It’s more about the abundant, very fine tannins. It’s a classic wine with historical grip and power. Real Bordeaux. Sophisticated and provocative." 98-99 Points James Suckling

"Harvest for the grand vin began on the 23rd of September and finished on the 7th of October. Composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot (with no Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc this year), yields for this wine in 2019 were 43 hectoliters per hectare, and it is aging in 55% new oak. It came in at an alcohol level of 14.02% and an IPT of 67. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Cos d'Estournel soars out of the glass with vibrant black raspberries, Black Forest cake and crushed blackcurrants scents plus nuances of red roses, wild sage, dark chocolate and cast-iron pan with a waft of woodsmoke. The medium to full-bodied palate is taut, muscular and built like a skyscraper, with firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the concentrated black fruit flavors, finishing with incredible length and depth. This wine so beautifully, clearly captures the juxtaposition between the periods of dry heat and those hallelujah moments of refreshing rain - the hallmarks of this great vintage. It's a vinous masterpiece in the making." 97-99+ Points Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

Palmer 2019, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc from Margaux, Bordeaux

"Iris and violet aromatics swirl out of the glass. In the mouth, things are velvet in texture and packed with concentrated cassis puree and blackberry fruit, gentle spice, soft charcoal and sappy tannins, with the whole thing just slowly slowly expanding and building through the palate, tightening its grip as it reaches the close of play. The Palmer signature of energy and precision is here in spades, and altogether the wine is both measured and elegant, with textbook floral Margaux character, while being extremely juicy, creamy and enjoyable, with a mouthwatering salinity on the finish - up there with the very best vintages of this estate." 98 Points Jane Anson, Decanter

Chateau de Brézé Crémant de Loire Brut NV, 0.75L
Chenin Blanc / Chardonnay from Crémant de Loire, Loire

"This is another wine in our collection that over-delivers for the price, especially when considering the exhausting effort made to craft such an inexpensive sparkler from one of the Loire Valley’s greatest terroirs, Brézé. This now famous commune in Saumur is known for its laser-sharp Chenin Blanc wines, and fresh, bright and extremely age-worthy Cabernet Franc. The blend here is about 75% Chenin Blanc with the rest Chardonnay; the latter is used to soften up, add body and round out the edges of the extremely tense character of the Chenin grown in the coldest sites of this already frigid hill." Importer Notes, The Source Imports

Stater-West Saumur Blanc 2018, 0.75L
Chenin Blanc from Saumur, Loire

"This is coming from a selection inside the parcel of Les Chapaudaises in Bizay. The selection is made in the lower slope of the parcel (facing north-east), where the grapes don't have the same concentration and depth from the other half that go into the bottling Les Chapaudaises. The soil type is mostly clay-sand-loam based and about 1m in depth before being in the limestone. The picking dates vary from the picking for Les Chapaudaises as the ripeness is a little later on this part of the vineyard, therefore needing 4-5 days more of ripening than Les Chapaudaises." Importer Notes, Grand Cru Selections

Bernabeleva Navaherreros Blanco de Bernabeleva 2017, 0.75L
Albillo / Macabeo from Viños de Madrid, Madrid

."The 2017 Navaherreros Blanco de Bernabeleva is a similar blend to the 2016—60% Albillo Real and 40% Macabeo—and it shows the freshness that the Albillo Real usually has in warmer years, when the ripening is fast and the phenolic ripeness is perhaps lower while the acidity remains a little higher. This is a constant when tasting the 2017s next to the 2018s, when the warmer year (2017) produced fresher whites and the cooler year (2018) seems to have delivered riper whites with more honeyed character. There is balanced and low alcohol (12%) from grapes that were picked starting the 2nd of August. The wine is harmonious, and the varieties feel very integrated. They produced 14,500 bottles that were bottled in July 2018." 90+ Points Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

Arnaud Lambert Saumur Blanc Clos David 2016, 0.75L
Chenin Blanc from Saumur, Loire

"The wine starts out aromatically expressing the magic that limestone imparts to its local vine community. Pure and striking fruits, like sweet lime, meyer lemon with lemon curd, exotic spice and flint dart out of the glass and into the nose. If you can manage to keep it in the glass for a couple of hours of slow observation and drinking, the wine will take you on a rollercoaster of highs that seem only to climber higher with every passing minute. Acidity? More than you can imagine but somehow it presents itself gently on the finish after a somewhat overwhelming initial attack from the first sip.

The wine hasn’t a drop of tropical or rich, ripe fruit notes because this cold site rarely has a chance to develop botrytis, even in ideal years. The topsoil is pure sand with limestone gravel that has been unearthed from the tuffeau limestone that sits on thirty centimeters below the soil. It’s pure sand and limestone soils make it the most unique soil structure on the hill. Anyone would be hard-pressed to find a white wine in the world that carries this fair of a price." Importer Notes, The Source Imports

Raúl Pérez Bierzo Ultreia Godello 2018, 0.75L
Godello from Bierzo, Castilla y León

"2017 was the year of frost, and production was very small. So, we jumped to the entry-level white 2018 Ultreia Godello, which was produced with purchased grapes from different plots and new vineyards (including one in the zone of Ponferrada and also vineyards in Cacabelos and Valtuille), from a mix of soils, slate and clay. This sets the tone of the whites from the vintage: it has perfect ripeness, freshness and harmony and is very clean, with precision and clarity. It's subtly varietal and was fermented in used barriques and used oak foudres of different sizes. They never rack or do bâtonnage, and they never use sulfur until bottling. It's fuller and more volume, which is compensated by more acidity. The élevage lasts until the next harvest, when they need the oak containers, trying to keep them empty for the shortest amount of time possible. The wine is approachable and a bit gentler, for a wider audience. They produced 26,000 bottles. It was bottled in late August 2019." 92+ Points Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

La Vizcaina (Raúl Pérez) Bierzo El Rapolao 2017, 0.75L
Mencia from Bierzo, Castilla y León

"I was impressed by the 2017 La Vizcaína El Rapolao, but the warm vintage was very good for a warmer vineyard like El Rapolao. This is hands-down my favorite of the 2017s from La Vizcaína, the wine that shows more freshness. It's harmonious and perhaps was harvested a little earlier than the others. Like the other wines from the range, this 2017 has more color than the 2018, as well as more power and a little more concentration, and it's also denser than the 2018, with tannins that are grittier and a little drier. But if I didn't have the 2018 next to this, I would only be praising it, because the 2017 is truly impressive, all in place and simply one step up in power and all the rest to keep the balance. 10,000 bottles were filled in May 2019. This is a late-budding vineyard, and it didn't suffer the effect of the spring hail from the year." 95 Points Luis Gutiérrez, The WIne Advocate

La Vizcaina (Raúl Pérez) Bierzo La Vitoriana 2017, 0.75L
Mencia from Bierzo, Castilla y León

"The 2017 La Vizcaína La Vitoriana has depth and power, inherent to the vineyard, a cool site that behaves well in a warm year like 2017, but in 2017 I still prefer El Rapolao. The fruit is a little darker and riper without excess (it's all relative when you compare, and sometimes comparisons are tedious...), as the cooler exposition takes the warmer weather better. It's textured and serious. 6,300 bottles were filled, as the north-facing exposures like this escaped the frost of the 2017 spring. It as bottled in May 2019." 94 Points Luis Gutiérrez, The WIne Advocate

"A small amount of Cotes du Rhone is produced from the vineyards owned by the estate in the communes of Vacqueyras and Violes. As with the more noble Gigondas, this cuvée is based almost exclusively on the Grenache grape (approximately 90% of the blend annually). It is vinified in a fashion similar to the Gigondas except that the elevage is less long. This is to say that there is an extended cuvaison with stems included, malolactic is done in cuve and the wine sees a brief stay in large foudres before being bottled eighteen months after harvest without fining or filtration. We purchase the overwhelming majority of this wine for sale in the USA (approximately 2400 bottles per annum)."  Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Patenôtre destemmed some clusters that still displayed green stems—mostly, he tells me, originating from younger vines—and macerated for some 15 days with, as usual, a submerged cap. Ronan by Clinet 2015, 0.75L
Merlot from Bordeaux, Bordeaux

"Quite a bargain this wine, coming from the director of the famous Pomerol estate Château Clinet. The 100% Merlot Bordeaux AOC made is silky-smooth claret with both black cherry and ripe plum on the palate, balanced out by refreshing acidity. A juicy wine that invites drinking. One of my favorites from this blind tasting." 90 Points Decanter

DuMol Chardonnay Wester Reach 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Russian River Valley, California

"The 2017 Chardonnay Wester Reach was barrel fermented and aged 12 months on the lees in 30% new oak. It has a mineral-driven nose of petrichor, honey, toasted almonds, Golden apple, white peach and notions of nectarine and hay. Light to medium-bodied, it's intensely fruited and packs in the savory layers and expressive honeyed notions, lifted by juicy acidity and finishing long, intense and focused. Lieu-Dit Cabernet Franc 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Santa Ynez Valley, California

"The 2018 Cabernet Franc is dark, rich and super-expressive. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, leather, licorice and a whole range of floral/savory notes show tremendous depth. Despite having been bottled just prior to this tasting, the 2018 is incredibly appealing. The combination of intense fruit and the classically-leaning style favored by Lieu Dit yields a Franc of real distinction. In the early going, the sulfured version is a bit more expressive than the Sans Soufre, which is unusual, as the opposite is usually true." 93 Points Antonio Galloni

Arnot-Roberts Cabernet Sauvignon Fellom Ranch 2017, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Santa Cruz Mountains, California

"In 2017, the Cabernet Sauvignon Fellom Ranch melds together racy fruit from the warm growing season with the hillside savoriness that is such a calling card of this Santa Cruz Mountains site. The resulting wine is ample and exotically rich, but also tightly wound and in need of cellaring. Some of the finer nuances are perhaps a bit obscured by the fruit, but that in no way detracts from the wine's considerable allure. The 2017 should be a fascinating Cabernet to follow over the next two decades, perhaps more." 95 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Raúl Pérez Bierzo Ultreia Saint-Jacques 2018, 0.75L
Mencia from Bierzo, Castilla y León

"The truly impressive 2018 Ultreia Saint Jacques transcends its price category. They destemmed more grapes because they fermented it in the oak vats they bought from Vega Sicilia to use in the new winery, where it macerated for two months and then matured in used barrels for nine to 10 months. The secret is to use very good grapes from very good vineyards. The wine is clean, precise and fresh, and the oak is super-subtle, almost unnoticeable. The palate reflects a fluid wine of pleasure, a red of thirst. This is the wine where they have invested more, and 2018 has to be the finest vintage to date. They did 150,000 bottles of this in the outstanding 2018 vintage. It was bottled in October/November 2019." 93+ Points Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

Jean-Louis Chave Sélection Crozes-Hermitage Silène 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from Crozes-Hermitage, Rhône

"Inky ruby. Pungent, mineral-accented black and blue fruit qualities on the nose, along with hints of olive, licorice and peony that build in the glass. Supple and weighty on the palate, offering expansive blackberry and boysenberry flavors that become firmer with air. The floral note comes back strong on the penetrating finish, which shows outstanding persistence and fine-grained, well-knit tannins. 60% of this fruit was sourced from the granitic soils and steep slopes in the northern sector of the appellation and the other 40% came from the south, where the soils are lighter, based mostly on limestone clay and covered in large alluvial stones and smaller river rocks." 93 Points Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 2017, 0.75L

"In the end, I'm unable to definitely say that the 2017 Hermitage Blanc is better than the stupendous 2016. Of course, I sampled it just three days after it was bottled, so I've appended the + to my rating, as there's a possibility the wine may have been affected by that process. It's gently toasty but dominated at this stage by forward melon and pineapple fruit. Domaine du Gour de Chaulé Gigondas La Numéro Huit 2018, 0.75L
Grenache from Gigondas, Rhône

"A new 100% Grenache cuvée, the 2018 Gigondas Numero 8 looks to be very promising. Hints of garrigue and fennel accent dark cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is lush and velvety, concentrated and plush, with plenty of length on the finish." 92-95 Points Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate

"Only 1200 bottles of the 2018 “La Numéro Huit” were made, and it is a stunning achievement that speaks to Grenache’s ability to convey remarkable nuance when treated with respect. Paul deftly avoids Grenache’s garish glop without overcorrecting into gluggable frivolity, channeling the rigorous structure typical of Gour de Chaulé into something remarkably fresh. Acidity here is pert, unapologetic; the fruit is vivacious and ultra-pure, reveling in its vibrancy of texture. Youthful experimentation is impossible to resist when rendered with such arresting force of personality and utter deliciousness, and our hats are off to Paul for this wonderful new cuvée—a feather in the cap of one of our greatest and most important domaines, and a harbinger of great things to come." Clarke Boehling, Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Cruse Wine Co. Proprietary Red Monkey Jacket 2018, 0.75L
Valdigue / Carignan / Tannat from North Coast, California

"Michael Cruse is the man behind Ultramarine, California’s currently most fashionable sparkling wine, and came to wine by listening to the thoughtful Terry Leighton speak. His Cruse Wine Co. focuses on more off the beaten path varieties, and his Monkey Jacket red is an esoteric blend of fifty-one percent Valdiguié, thirteen percent Carignan, ten percent Syrah, eight percent Pinot Noir and St. Laurent and the last eighteen percent, an unknown field blend. Twenty percent of the blend included whole clusters and the wine was raised in a variety of vessels, including cement tanks, stainless steel and old oak puncheons. The 2018 is 12.5 percent octane and offers up a lovely and complex bouquet of black cherries, lavender, woodsmoke, tree bark, dried eucalyptus and heather. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and nicely light on its feet, with a good core and soil signature, moderate tannins and a long, complex and very well balanced finish. This is a bit youthfully chewy on the backend right now (though certainly quite drinkable), and may be even better with four or five years in the cellar. Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2015, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"After sitting out the 2014 vintage, Andrea Costanti calls 2015 a beautiful year and one of the best in the history of Brunello. He deemed it exceptional enough to craft a Riserva (to be released in 2021) yet his classic Brunello hasn't suffered for it. In fact, it's one of the greatest successes of the vintage. Gorgeous, seductive aromas are already expressive but still youthful. Cherry and plum are enveloped by exotic spice and a faint smokiness. The palate is plush and velvety with layers of powdery tannins that build, and tangy acid that cleanses the palate. Piedrasassi Syrah PS 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from Santa Barbara County, California

"In the vineyard, the team at Piedrasassi picks a bit earlier than their colleagues to keep the alcohol levels in balance with flavour and to preserve the natural acidity of the fruit. In the winery, Moorman employs some whole-cluster inclusion, indigenous yeast fermentation, and no sulphur added at fermentation, remaining as natural as possible without compromising the integrity and stability of the wine. Elevage is in 500-litre barrels to limit the wine’s exposure to oxygen and to minimize the influence of oak. They add the smallest amount of sulphur to the wine at bottling; allowing the aromatics to stay expressive while still protecting the wine during cellaring." Distributor Notes, Skurnik Wines

"An expressive nose of red currant, pomegranate and a floral whiff possesses good freshness. The supple and very forward medium-bodied flavors possess a velvety and seductive mouthfeel, all wrapped in a sappy finish that progressively tightens up as it sits on the palate. Matthiasson Sweet Vermouth No. 3 NV, 0.375L
Vermouth from Napa Valley, California

"First off, our vermouth is primarily about the wine. The base wine. It is 100% Flora, which is a variety bred at UC Davis by the legendary Harold Olmo back in the 1950’s. It is a cross between Semillon and Gewurtztraminer Though Olmo isn’t with us any more to confirm our theory, our conviction is that he bred it specifically for fortified wines. The California industry moved away from these types of wines and Flora fell into obscurity. When we heard that Flora still existed in the organically farmed Yount Mill Vineyard we immediately begged for some fruit. This fruit is a rare exception for us—normally we try to grow all of our own fruit—but the temptation to make wine from this rare and historical variety was toomuch to resist."." Arnot-Roberts Touriga Nacional Rosé 2019, 0.75L
Touriga Nacional from North Coast, California

"Our Rosé comes from two incredible sites: Luchsinger and St. Amant Vineyards. We began making our Rosé of Touriga Nacional in 2010, sourcing fruit from the Luchsinger vineyard located at 1400′ in the Clear Lake AVA. This rocky, volcanic site enjoys a warm growing season suitable to Touriga Nacional. Touriga is a late-ripening grape that needs some heat to mature and the Luchsinger site is a perfect match for this hearty variety. Beginning in 2015 we were fortunate to be introduced to another fantastic Touriga Nacional vineyard, St. Amant in Amador County of the Sierra Foothills. This vineyard, farmed by the Spencer family since 1972, is composed of sandy granitic loam, and benefits from cool air descending the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains which helps moderate ripening. The grapes have a vibrant personality with fine tannins and bright acidity. The fruit from both of these vineyard sites is crushed lightly prior to pressing to release some color, then fermented with native yeasts and aged in stainless steel. The resulting wines are blended together to harmonize for 4 months prior to bottling in early January." Producer Notes, Arnot Roberts
