Altos Las Hormigas Tinto 2017, 0.75L
Bonarda / Malbec / Semillon from Mendoza, Mendoza

"The 2017 Tinto is an unusual co-fermentation of Bonarda and Malbec and some 7% Semillon grapes, fermented in stainless steel and kept in concrete vats and bottled without touching any oak. Floral, juicy and elegant. This is the first vintage released. It's a straightforward, juicy and young red with some complexity where the Semillon seems to add freshness." 90 Points Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Bodega Chacra Chardonnay Mainqué 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Río Negro, Patagonia

"The 2017 Mainqué Chardonnay is the second white produced with grapes from their own and their partners' vineyards that are worked by their own team, since the wines are organic and biodynamic. It was picked early, as some peaks of extreme heat made the grapes ripen early on while keeping the acidity. It fermented in barrel and didn't go through malolactic, reaching some 13% alcohol. The élevage was 11 months in barrique, in Damy barrels (some new and some used) that they took from Domaine Roulot in Burgundy. This has more up-front fruit, as the soils are deeper, but the common theme with the top Chardonnay is the salinity and the tasty finish lent by the calcareous components of the alluvial soils. Even though I expected this to have a sharper personality, it was more mellow. A worthy debut, and it was not a small cuvée: 11,000 bottles were filled in January 2018." 92 Points Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

d`Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm McLaren Vale 2006, 0.375L
Shiraz from McLaren Vale, South Australia

"D’Arenberg’s flagship is the 2006 The Dead Arm Shiraz. Opaque purple-colored, the nose is reticent but gives up aromas of meat, bacon, game, truffles, blueberry, and blackberry. Firm, layered, and complex, this beautifully rendered Shiraz demands a decade of cellaring. It will be superb from 2018 to 2036.D’Arenberg has been owned and operated by the Osborn family since its inception in 1912. The portfolio, with a focus on the Rhone varieties, is wide ranging and value-oriented from top to bottom. The winery produces a bevy of value priced reds and whites that were reviewed in Issue 178. They should not be overlooked. At the higher end of the portfolio there is one white wine on which to report." 95+ Points Jay S Miller, The Wine Advocate

Giant Steps Chardonnay Yarra Valley 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Yarra Valley, Victoria

"It’s a ripper drink. Shows pedigree of the top Giant Steps wines but delivers a wickedly drinkable, tangy, lemon-drizzled-apple-crunch of yummo chardonnay with enough pep and vigour (and faint salted nutty savouriness) to blast off on those warm, baking summer days. That aside, there’s spring to texture, light juiciness, a pucker followed by mouth-watering refreshment to close. No brainer for quality, bright, quietly complex but wholly guzzle-worthy chardonnay." 93 Points Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

Nikolaihof Grüner Veltliner Im Weingebirge Federspiel 2017, 0.75L
Grüner Veltliner from Wachau, Niederösterreich

"From one of the oldest vineyard designations in Europe (first mentioned in 511 AD) and grown on clay, loess and paragneiss soils, the 2017 Im Weingebirge Grüner Veltliner Federspiel displays a clear and subtle bouquet of white fruits, almonds, cinnamon, stewed apples and a dash of fresh lemon juice. Very elegant and beautifully balanced on the palate, this is a dense, well-structured and persistent Veltliner with a fine, crystalline acidity and a long and intense finish. It was bottled at the end of April and tasted in early September 2018." 92 Points Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

Its fruity aromas and flavors coupled with its delicate medium sweet sugar on the palate should pair it well with unagi and rice." 89 Points Wilfred Wong

Tap 357 Maple Rye Whisky NV, 0.75L
Whiskey from Canada, Canada

"This maple-syrup-flavored whisky is sure to please anyone with a sweet tooth. The base is a small-batch blend of 3- 5- and 7-year-old Canadian rye whiskies, lending backbone to the big maple and vanilla flavors, with a touch of peach and clove on the finish. Good for sipping over ice or mixing, as in Tap 357's suggested cocktail, The Montreal––a riff on the Manhattan." 92 Points Wine Enthusiast

A. Mann Pinot Gris Grand Cru Hengst 2015, 0.75L
Pinot Gris from Alsace, Alsace

“The 2015 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Hengst is a gorgeously rich, intense and powerful Pinot with an oily texture, a vital acidity, great tension and length. Impressive.” Wine Advocate 93 Points

“Bright yellow with golden tinges. Perfumed aromas of guava, peach, minerals and sweet spices. Multilayered and suave, displaying a lovely sense of balance to the rich, long orchard and tropical fruit flavors. Finishes very clean and fresh, as well as a little sweet (29 g/L residual sugar and 5.1 g/L total acidity) and tannic; the hint of tannic bite is fairly typical of the Hengst due to its marly soils. Barthelmy likes the 2015 Pinot Gris Furstentum more in 2015, but for me it’s the other way around.” Vinous 91+ Points

Albert Boxler Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Eckberg 2015, 0.75L
Riesling from Niedermorschwihr, Alsace

“The 2015 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Eckberg has a clear, fresh, mineral and highly delicate nose with concentrated white stone fruit but also flinty/stony aromas. Lemon flavors are here as well, but they are concentrated as in a chutney or a cake. Rich, lush, intense and beautifully concentrated (seamless) on the palate, with a lingering minerality, this is another gorgeous Riesling from Jean Boxler. Its finish is lean and finessed but also ripe, concentrated, rich, elegant and endlessly salty. There seems to be some sweetness, but the fine tannins, the body, concentration and finesse balance it perfectly. This Eckberg is fine and rich at the same time. A fascinating Riesling!” Wine Advocate 96 Points

Albert Mann Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Steingrubler 2015, 0.75L
Gewurztraminer from Alsace, Alsace

“Very ripe but precise and intense, with classic Gewurz flavors on the nose opens the 2015 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Steingrubler, a powerful yet vital, precise and elegant wine full of tension and grip. Very stimulating its its purity and tension. The wine finished at 13.% alcohol and 37 grams of residual sugar, but you almost don't taste it!” Wine Advocate 93 Points

“Bright straw. Nuanced bergamot and candied orange peel on the nose, plus hints of cinnamon and white flowers. Bright, dense and pure, offering clean citrus and spicy honey flavors that are impeccably balanced (37 g/L residual sugar and 4.7 g/L total acidity). The finish is long and very precise. The Steingrubler always produces very delicate Gewürzes that lack the depth of the Furstentum, but are also at once refined and dainty - ideal for those who don’t like this variety’s powerful, often opulent personality. Very lovely wine.” Vinous 90+ Points

Chateau Thivin Côte de Brouilly 2018, 0.75L
Gamay from Côte de Brouilly, Beaujolais

"The 2018 Côte de Brouilly is still a little closed after its recent bottling, but it's a promising wine in the making, unwinding in the glass with scents of cherries, plums, licorice and rich soil tones, complemented by floral top notes that blossom as the wine sits in the glass. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and satiny, with a textural, enveloping profile, a deep and voluminous core, ripe but succulent acids and powdery structuring tannins." 93 Points William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

D. Coquelet Chiroubles 2015, 0.75L
Gamay from Chiroubles, Beaujolais

"The 2015 Chiroubles from Damien Coquelet is a fine, fine follow-up to his beautiful 2014 version. The lovely and sappy nose shows just a whisper of baked fruit elements in its mélange of black cherries, pomegranate, gamebird, violets, lovely soil tones and a topnote of woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and really nicely structured, with a sappy core harnessed behind a bit of tannin, bright acids and outstanding focus and grip on the long and still quite youthful finish. This is an absolutely superb young bottle of Chiroubles that seems to want to be a Morgon this year, as it shows uncanny structure for the long haul and is destined to be an absolutely gorgeous wine with a bit of bottle age. The hint of baked fruit tones meld beautifully into the vibrancy of the wine and really give this high class Chiroubles a bit of 1982 Bordeaux personality. It is approachable today, but I would opt for giving it at least a couple of years in the cellar to more fully blossom, as this is going to be a very uncharacteristically long-lived and epic bottle of Chiroubles." 93+ John Gilman

“Vivid ruby. Pungent red and blue fruit and floral scents are lifted by a zesty mineral note and a hint of white pepper. Palate-staining black raspberry and boysenberry flavors show excellent clarity and a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes sappy, sweet and very long, with subtle earth and floral pastille notes lingering.” Vinous 92 Points

P.M. Chermette Domaine du Vissoux Les Garants 2016, 0.75L
Gamay from Fleurie, Beaujolais

"In contrast to the Poncié bottling, the les Garants lieu à dit is located down in the section of Fleurie that borders on Moulin-à-Vent, and like the Coudert’s Clos de la Roilette, was actually once part of Moulin-à-Vent, rather than Fleurie. Monsieur Chermette gives this wine a bit of new oak, which works beautifully with the more structured personality of this cru, as it offers up a fine nose of black cherries, pomegranate, dark soil tones, gamebird, espresso and a touch of oak spice. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, full and potentially sappy at the core, with fine-grained tannins, excellent focus and grip and a very long, poised and nascently complex finish." 94 John Gilman

“Vivid ruby. Aromas of fresh dark berries, candied violet and smoky minerals pick up a hint of allspice with air. Barde-Haut 2016, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Franc from St. Emilion, Bordeaux

"Readers will find a rich, flamboyant wine in the 2016 Barde-Haut. There is not a ton of subtlety here, but I am not sure that matters all that much given how immensely pleasing the 2016 is. Crushed rocks, graphite, lavender, blackberry, plum, and violet infuse a Saint-Émilion that offers tremendous textural richness as well as vibrancy. Most importantly of all, the 2016 is flat-out delicious. This is a decidedly opulent, dark Saint-Émilion with all of the elements impeccably balanced. I loved it" 96 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Brane-Cantenac 2005, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Petit Verdot from Margaux, Bordeaux

"A sexy, style of wine from the Lurtons at Brane-Cantenac, this wine (a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc) has a stunning nose of forest floor, licorice, blackcurrants, plums and spring flowers. Soft tannin, full-bodied opulence and beautifully textured, lush richness, make for a brilliant wine from this large, 180-acre vineyard. In spite of the wine’s stunning forward fragrance and lushness, the color still looks as if it is 3-4 years old, rather than a decade. This is a big-time winner in 2005 and should drink well for at least another 25+ years." 95 Points Robert M. Parker Jr.

"A spectacular effort from this estate rivaling their 2005, but more flashy/flamboyant, this dark ruby/purple wine has a strikingly intense nose of licorice, flowers, plums and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, very approachable and silky, this suave, very sexy wine can be drunk early on as well as aged for 20+ years." 95 Points Robert M. Parker Jr.

"This is a complete wine, full of both tannins and great swathes of ripe fruit. It has a serious side as well in its solid structure and concentration. The juicy blackberry fruits are beginning to calm down and meld into a fine dense wine that will age very well." 94 Points Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

Brane-Cantenac 2015, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Carmenere from Margaux, Bordeaux

"The 2015 Brane-Cantenac is powerful, structured and explosive in feel. A deep, resonant wine, the 2015 boasts off the charts ripeness allied to formidable structure and tannic heft. I imagine the 2015 is going to need a number of years to become approachable and more than that to be at its best. The dark stone fruit, smoke, tobacco, spice and leather flavors pack a huge punch, but it is the wine's balance that places it among the elite on the Left Bank in 2015. Brane-Cantenac is a total pleasure bomb. I can't wait to taste it with a little bottle age." 96 Points Antonio Galloni

Canon 2016, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Franc from St. Emilion, Bordeaux

“Composed of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc and aged for 18 months in 70% new French barriques, the 2016 Canon is medium to deep garnet-purple in color, and—WOW—it opens with the most stunning perfume of violets, red roses and kirsch, giving way to a core of black cherry preserves, chocolate box, licorice, warm plums and Chinese five spice plus an earthy waft of underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is completely filled with expressive, perfumed black berry layers accented by lively red fruits and exotic spices, supported by impressively fine-grained tannins and fantastic tension, finishing very long with jaw-dropping energy. Tasted three times, I had one opportunity to taste the 2015 and 2016 Canon side by side. While I love the bold, rich, seductive nature of the 2015, this 2016 kicks it up a notch in terms of polish, precision, depth and persistence. Most notably, the superbly ripe, exquisitely fine-grained tannins on this 2016 bring to the table a whole other level of sophistication. Bravo!" 98+ Points Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

Clos Saint-Andre 2015, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Cabernet Sauvignon from Pomerol, Bordeaux

"The 2015 Clos Saint-André (which some readers might recognize from the chapter in my Pomerol book) is a minuscule Pomerol grower close to Montviel. It has a generous bouquet of crushed strawberry and raspberry preserve aromas . . . clean and pure, and not overwhelmed by the 100% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, a fine thread of acidity, tightly knit red and black fruit with a touch of spice . . ."  Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

Cos d`Estournel 2008, 0.75L
from St. Estephe, Bordeaux

"This is a great wine from Jean-Guillaume Prats and tasted alongside the gestating 2009 at the chateau, guess which one I preferred? The 2008 has a wonderful, life-affirming bouquet: very pure and refined, great precision with blackberry, bilberry, briary, a touch of wild hedgerow and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced with slightly brittle tannin on the entry, the Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) firmly in the driving seat. Great clarity and focus towards the almost Pauillac like finish soaked in mineralité, this wine is brilliantly realized." 96 Points Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

Ducru-Beaucaillou 1983, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from St. Julien, Bordeaux

"After a chewy and youthful bottle of the ’83 Ducru that I reported on in the feature on this great estate last year, I was very happy to cross paths with a much more accessible bottle in preparation for this vintage report. I clearly underrated the wine last year, as this bottle emphatically demonstrates, as it soars from the glass is a deep, pure and nascently complex nose of cassis, dark berries, woodsmoke, a touch of Ducru nuttiness, beautifully complex, gravelly soil tones, a touch of juniper berry, Cuban tobacco and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and utterly refined, with a rock solid core of fruit, refined tannins, excellent focus and balance and outstanding length and grip on the elegant and utterly classic finish. A great vintage of Ducru in the making, the 1983 should still be cellared for several more years to allow it to fully blossom." 94 Points John Gilman, View From the Cellar

"Tasted at Farr’s Ducru-Beaucaillou dinner at the Ledbury. Consistent notes when compared to last year with a spellbinding bouquet: blackberries, smoke, a touch of dried herbs and pine needles with stunning delineation and vibrancy. It still needs another five or six years, but will be worth the wait." 97 Points Neal Martin

"A magnificent sleeper of the vintage, the 2008 Duhart Milon is the shrewd consumer’s wine to purchase by the case as prices do not yet reflect its qualitative resurgence. Composed of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot that came in at 13.09% alcohol, it is a surprisingly intense effort displaying a marvelous texture, plenty of black currant, licorice, unsmoked cigar tobacco and earthy characteristics, a full-bodied mouthfeel and stunning purity as well as density. Enclos Tourmaline 2016, 0.75L
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux

"The 2016 Château Enclos Tourmaline is a monster of a wine that comes from a tiny one-hectare parcel located just across the road from Clinet. The wine is 100% Merlot brought up all in new oak (it hit 14.5% natural alcohol). It’s a magical effort that offers a saturated purple color to go with notes of blueberries, blackberry liqueur, graphite, and crushed rocks. Still tight and compact on the palate, it has flawless integration of its fruit, tannins, and acidity, full-bodied richness, lots of ripe tannins, and a huge finish. This brilliant wine should be at its peak from 2024 to 2054. It’s worth pointing out that the vineyard manager and winemaker is the talented Jérôme Aguirre who gets consulting advice from Michel Rolland. Bravo to both individuals for this awesome wine." 98 Points Jeb Dunnuck

Gloria 2010, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from St. Julien, Bordeaux

"The 2010 Gloria is an ass-kicking, fabulous value once again from this estate, which would probably be classified if the 1855 hierarchy of the wines of the Medoc were ever done again. Abundant notes of cedar wood, fruitcake, flowers, creme de cassis and kirsch are all present in this full-bodied, opulent, dense, dark ruby/purple wine. It is slightly more restrained than the flamboyant 2009, but equal in quality. This is a juicy, well-proportioned, sensationally concentrated, super-ripe Gloria. . ." 93 Points Robert M. Parker Jr.

The grape mix for the Saint Estephe is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The alcoholic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks and then the wine is aged in small oak barrels (about one-third of which is new) for an additional 15 to 18 months before being bottled (without filtration). Les Pagodes de Cos 2009, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Petit Verdot / Merlot / Cabernet Franc from St. Estephe, Bordeaux

"The brilliant 2009 Les Pagodes de Cos actually has more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend than the grand vin (69% versus 65%) in addition to mostly Merlot and a small quantity of Petit Verdot. As powerful as the Cos in terms of alcoholic clout (14.5%), the full-bodied, round, generous Les Pagodes de Cos exhibits lots of creme de cassis and floral notes intermixed with hints of wood/barrique and spice. Juicy, succulent and remarkably fresh and well-delineated, it merits considerable attention from consumers. It should drink well for 15-20 years. Oddly enough, the second wine is superior to many vintages of Cos in the 1960s 1970s and 1980s!" 94 Points Robert M. Parker Jr.

Montrose 1998, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Petit Verdot from St. Estephe, Bordeaux

"Dark red. Lively. Good intensity. Young. Brilliant. Clean. Average color intensity. Fruity. Fine touches of caramel and licorice. Pure and fine. More powerful. More saline. Soft entry on the palate, very fruity, rounded and savory, developed, medium to full-bodied. The wine evolves toward juicy notes, always close to the fruit and melting in the mouth, with savor and power. It leaves in the finish a beautiful note of ripe fruit with no hard tannins, even if they are present; they are very palate-coating. Beautifully fine wine." 92 points Jean-Marc Quarin

Palmer 2016, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc from Margaux, Bordeaux

“"Technical Director Thomas Duroux and his team made one of the most brilliant wines of the 2016 vintage. Palmer is simply exceptional. Rich and dramatically sweeping in the glass, the 2016 is breathtaking. All the elements simply fall into place in a wine of mesmerizing beauty. The counterpoint of dark, sumptuous fruit and floral notes makes for an utterly compelling Palmer that will take its place among the estate's finest vintages. Dark cherry, lavender, spice and mocha are some of the many notes that build into a deep, substantial finish that is truly unforgettable. In a word: magnificent!"” Vinous 100 Points

“I wrote that the 2015 was incredible, and this 2016 is again. It’s equally structured and powerful as the 2015, yet there’s an underlying intellectual serenity to this wine. You taste it, and you want to know and experience it even more. Full and tannic yet ever so polished and beautiful. Mesmerizing. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.” James Suckling 99-100 Points

“Potentially an 100-point wine, this is beautifully ripe and rich, with sweet tannins as well as opulent black fruit tones. A higher than usual proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend gives the wine its density, sophistication and great sense of presence.” Wine Enthusiast 98-100 Points

"(100% sauvignon blanc, 14.5% alcohol) Extremely fresh, deep nose combines quinine, ginger, minerals and citrus fruits, with white peach and honey notes that suggest viognier (I could not possibly have guessed that this wine was entirely from sauvignon blanc). Rich, honeyed and powerful, with superb fat and depth of flavor. Notes of peach, citrus fruit, hay and honeydew melon. Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux. 2015, 0.75L
Sauvignon Blanc from Margaux, Bordeaux

"Margaux's 2015 Pavillon Blanc is superb. Remarkably pure and crystalline, especially for the year, the Pavillon Blanc proves to be utterly irresistible. Lemon peel, white flowers, crushed rocks, mint and a hint of reduction develop in the glass, but it is the wine's energy that is most alluring. The intensely saline, nuanced finish only reinforces the impression of translucent purity. Pontet-Canet 2010, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from Pauillac, Bordeaux

"An absolutely amazing wine, from grapes harvested between the end of September and October 17, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot . . . . comes from one of the few biodynamic vineyards in Bordeaux, but you are likely to see many more, given the success that Tesseron seems to be having at all levels, both in his vineyards and in his fermentation/winemaking. An astounding, compelling wine with the classic Pauillac nose more often associated with its cross-street neighbor, Mouton Rothschild, crème de cassis, there are also some violets and other assorted floral notes. The wine has off-the-charts massiveness and intensity but never comes across as heavy, overbearing or astringent. The freshness, laser-like precision, and full-bodied, massive richness and extract are simply remarkable to behold and experience. It is very easy, to become jaded tasting such great wines from a great vintage, but it is really a privilege to taste something as amazing as this. Unfortunately, it needs a good decade of cellaring, and that’s assuming it doesn’t close down over the next few years. This is a 50- to 75-year wine from one of the half-dozen or so most compulsive and obsessive proprietors in all of Bordeaux. Is there anything that proprietor Alfred Tesseron is not doing right? Talk about an estate that is on top of its game! Pontet-Canet’s 2010 is a more structured, tannic and restrained version of their most recent perfect wine, the 2009. Kudos to Pontet-Canet!" 100 Points Robert M. Parker Jr.

Potensac 2015, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc / Petit Verdot from Médoc, Bordeaux

"Deep, dark ruby-garnet with an opaque core, violet highlights, and delicate lightening at the rim. Fine blackberry fruit, ripe heart cherries, a touch of nougat, and delicate, candied orange zest. Complex, juicy, blackberry nuances, present, supportive tannins, a fresh structure, and cherry fruit reverberating in the finish; a versatile food companion." 92-94 Falstaff Magazin

"A clarity and transparency to this pretty red with currant, lemon-peel and lemon-grass character. Full body, very fine tannins and a pretty texture. Precise wine." James Suckling 92 Points

"The 2015 Potensac is just as beautiful from bottle as it was from barrel. Dark, succulent and super-expressive, the 2015 is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. It does not have the aromatic expansiveness or body of the very best years, but in exchange, it will drink well pretty much upon release." Vinous 90 Points

"Pepper, savory and bay leaf notes lead the way, with a core of medium-weight cassis and cherry flavors. A tobacco hint and chalky minerality extend the finish, which has a pleasant austerity. A touch reticent in style, but will age well." Wine Spectator 90 Points

"While this wine has plenty of ripe tannins, the delicious blackberry fruit speaks loudest. Ripe, full and with a fine line of acidity, it is gently structured and likely to age well." Wine Enthusiast 90 Points

Suduiraut 1996, 0.75L
Semillon / Sauvignon Blanc from Sauternes, Bordeaux

"Luscious ripe, sweet lemon and tropical fruit on the nose. The palate is viscous, rich and quite sweet. Good balancing acid and some spiciness, together with a bit of caramel. Fantastic balance here. Sweet, viscous, but with good acidity. A super wine." 93 Points Jamie Goode

Suduiraut 1999, 0.75L
Sauvignon Blanc / Sémillon from Sauternes, Bordeaux

"Fairly pale color. Intriguing, musky aromas of pineapple, white plum, mirabelle and minerals; nose shows terrific precision. Then thick, dense and sweet in the mouth, but surprisingly tightly wound and spicy thanks to very good acidity. Not at all unctuous; in fact, still quite firm-edged. Finishes spicy and very long, with surprising cut for this wine." Stephen Tanzer 92 points.

Suduiraut 2016, 0.75L
Sémillon / Sauvignon Blanc from Sauternes, Bordeaux

“The 2016 Suduiraut is fabulous. Crème brȗlée, passion fruit, tangerine peel and exotic floral notes all race out of the glass. I marvel at how Suduiraut can deliver so much flavor intensity and yet remain so gracious and classy. The 140 grams of residual sugar are very well integrated. This is such a gorgeous wine." 97 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

“This is a dense wine, full of rich fruit, bitter orange and apricot. Its ripe fruit is balanced by the intense botrytis while it is also freshened by the wine's acidity. This is a great wine with a long-term future.” Wine Enthusiast 95-97 Points

“This has so much botrytis/spice character. Dried-mushroom powder as well. Full yet round and gorgeous. Exuberant softness. Very sweet and complex. Complete Sauternes.” James Suckling 95-96 Points

“The 2016 De Suduiraut has a complex bouquet with rich and honeyed fruit, superb mineral tension and wonderful detail. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, great tension and a lovely touch of spice towards the very persistent finish. What a great Suduiraut in the making here, so full of character and complexity, and yet you still feel as if it has something up its sleeve.” Wine Advocate 94-96 Points

d'Yquem 2007, 0.375L
Sémillon / Sauvignon Blanc from Sauternes, Bordeaux

“Tasted single blind against its peers. Under blind conditions, the Yquem 2007 shines like a diamond. Nevertheless, it is initially rather taciturn on the nose, eventually opening up beautifully with touches of lemon curd, Mirabelle, and clear honey. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine definition and there seems to be a great deal of energy and vigor dispensed for your pleasure. There is such race and nervosity, and then that finish just purrs with harmony and focus. This Yquem feels just so alive and vivacious, yet there is an effortless quality here that is unmatched by its peers.” Wine Advocate 98 Points #199 Dec 2011

“Pale gold. Knockout nose of mirabelle, pineapple, spices and honey. Dense and thick but with racy acidity leavening the wine's liqueur-like flavors of peach, apricot and pineapple and imbuing it with superb energy. With aeration, this showed captivating notes of vanilla, toast and fresh and exotic herbs, plus a saline aspect on the very long finish. Still an infant, but already boasts terrific cut and purity of fruit. Director Pierre Lurton was thrilled to have a large quantity of wine at this high level of quality.” Vinous 95-98 Points

“Intense, with a wide range of maple, hazelnut-singed piecrust and apple crumble notes, all offset beautifully by a taut orange zest accent that imparts tension and length to balance the broad, rich core. Ends with a viscous feel and lingering energy.” Wine Spectator 96 Points

“Medium gold, already quite evolved. Heady stone fruits and honey on the nose, with generous fruit. Very sweet and succulent but there's fine acidity to balance the palate, which has beguiling sweetness. Very long, with a minty finish, but a tad evolved for a young Yquem.” Decanter 96 Points

d'Yquem 2010, 0.75L
Sémillon / Sauvignon Blanc from Sauternes, Bordeaux

"The 2010 Château d’Yquem is an utterly stunning young wine and a very worthy follow-up to the magical wine produced at this estate in 2009. The bouquet is deep, complex and flat out brilliant, as it soars from the glass in a celestial mélange of pineapple, tangerines, a touch of passion fruit, honeycomb, beautifully complex and chalky soil tones, spring flowers and a very gentle touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, suave and utterly seamless, with great mid-palate depth, bright acids and surreal length and grip on the dancing and very intensely flavored finish. The 2010 d’Yquem is not quite as ethereally complex at this stage as the hauntingly beautiful 2009, but in terms of sheer quality, it seems likely to be every bit as profound." John Gilman 98+ Points

“Stunningly rich in character, a wine with great power to go with its acidity and sweetness. It is dense, powerful and concentrated powered by honey and by spice from the wood. The finish has dried apricots, very aromatic.” Wine Enthusiast 96-98 Points

“Deep yellow with a golden tinge. Intense aromas of very ripe tropical fruit, beeswax, honey and raisin are lifted by a strong mineral edge. Very fresh, rich and sweet on entry, then extremely light on its feet, with refined flavors of ripe citrus, mango, papaya, honey and saffron complicated by tangy botrytis. A very bright and focused Yquem, with lively acidity and a long, smooth, floral finish. Boasts impeccable balance and lovely precision. This terrific Yquem is very stylish but less massively opulent than vintages like 1989 and 1983.” Vinous 95-98 Points

“Rather restrained now, showing terrific purity and precision, with dried pineapple, persimmon and mango notes, offset by racy honeysuckle, white peach and chamomile hints. The extremely long finish sails on, switching to yet another spectrum, with green almond, green plum and coconut accents. A thread of quinine stitches this up at the very end.” Wine Spectator 96 Points

“This is a super balanced and racy Yquem with nuts. light pineapple and apple character. Full and dense but bright and fresh. Love the spicy botrytis with light apple tart and nuts on the finish…” James Suckling 94-95 Points

Bitouzet Prieur Volnay Pitures 2014, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Volnay, Burgundy

"Dark, bright red. Medicinal black cherry on the reticent nose. Concentrated and very primary, conveying a strong impression of energy to the flavors of black cherry, raspberry, licorice and menthol. Very pulpy wine, like chewing on grapes. A powerful rather than elegant style of Volnay (this fruit was picked at a high 13% potential alcohol), with the very long finish showing a firm tannic spine that Bitouzet says is typical of this wine. Very impressive for the year and built for a slow evolution in bottle." Vinous 92+ Points

Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay Clos des Chènes 2015, 0.75L

"The lateness of the malos is in evidence as here too the nose is quite firmly reduced. As is typically the case there is even more size, weight, power and even concentration to the broad-shouldered and robust flavors that possess an outstanding level of dry extract that coats the palate and does a fine job of buffering the very firm tannic spine on the driving finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is a take no prisoners Clos des Chênes." 91-94 Points Allen Meadows, Burghound

Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay Les Caillerets 2015, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Volnay, Burgundy

"Moderately saturated medium red. Sexy, lightly medicinal aromas of cherry, redcurrant and milk chocolate, with a touch of peppery, spicy lift. (Unlike the foregoing wines, which are from totally destemmed fruit, this cuvée was vinified with a small percentage of whole clusters for the first time.) At once denser and more delicate than the Taillepieds, more reticent in the middle palate but with lovely mineral precision to its flavors of raspberry, black cherry, licorice and spices. Shows less of the vintage's obvious warmth than the Taillepieds, no doubt due at least in part to the lightly peppery stem influence. This wine should evolve slowly and gracefully." 92+ Points Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

"Medium red. A hint of musky, resiny reduction to the aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and licorice. Fine-grained, dry wine with terrific concentration and depth to its dark berry and spice flavors. Actually begins a bit austere but serious, late-arriving tannins carry the fruit through a very long finish. This big, rich Volnay is slightly high-toned in a positive way. The yield here was a healthy 37 hectoliters per hectare in 2015, according to François Bitouzet." 92 Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

Christophe Denizot / Domaine des Moirots Bourgogne Rouge 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Bourgogne, Burgundy

"The Bourgogne Rouge bottling from Domaine des Moirots is produced from a variety of different parcels in the area, with the average age of vines thirty-five years of age. The 2016 version is very pretty, wafting from the glass in a vibrant mix of red and black cherries, woodsmoke, a touch of mustard seed, good soil tones and a bit of cedar in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and tangy, with a good core, fine transparency and just a bit of backend tannin on the long and focused finish. This is a very tasty example that is drinking well out of the blocks, but will have no trouble keeping a decade in the cellar." John Gilman, View from the Cellar

Planted in 1990, this vineyard is the legacy of an old Côte d'Or vineyard-it is made up of moderate-yield Chardonnay selections. The charm of our Rully Les saint-Jacques lies in its finesse nd subtlety of aroma rather than its power. . ." Producer Notes, Domaine de Villaine

Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Morey St. Denis, Burgundy

"The 2017 Clos de Tart Grand Cru was matured in around 80% new oak, the barrels toasted chauff blonde. Jacques Desvauges mentioned that the wine needed oxygen ingress during maturation that only new oak can give. I tasted the component parts (as usual) as well as the blend. This has a very detailed, delineated bouquet offering mainly black fruit mixed with sous-bois, tobacco, clove and bay leaf, the typicité of the appellation showing through nicely. It feels very succinct and yet so fresh. The palate is beautifully balanced on the entry with a killer line of acidity. Pure black cherry fruit is joined by bilberry, hints of black olive and a marine/oyster shell tincture that comes through quite strongly toward the persistent, saline finish, which fans out with confidence. This is a brilliant follow-up to the benchmark 2016 by Jacques Desvauges and his team." 96-98 Points Neal Martin, Vinous

"The malo for the 2016 Trilogie ended at the same time as the Trés Girard, but the wine was showing a bit reduced at the time of my visit and needed a bit of coaxing to blossom. Hudelot-Noëllat Clos de Vougeot 2016, 0.75L

"It is unfortunate that the yields are so far down here this year, as this is a simply brilliant bottle of young Clos Vougeot! The complex bouquet is deep, pure, sappy and almost musky in its constellation of cherries, red and black raspberries, violets, raw cocoa, gorgeous soil tones, gamebird and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very elegant in profile this year, with a sappy core, fine transparency, marvelous complexity and focus, fine-grained tannins and a very, very long, very elegant and promising finish. "As the Butteaux Vieilles Vignes bottling had not yet been bottled, the precision of the vintage of 2016 was very much on display in this and the following example of Séchet. It augurs very, very well for the premier crus that had already been bottled and were in the midst of their recovery. Pierre Guillemot Corton Le Rognet et Corton 2009, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Ladoix Serrigny, Burgundy

"The Guillemot family has worked Savigny-lès-Beaune vines for eight generations (!) and produces wines with classic Burgundian finesse and balance, all while leaving us a reminder of Savigny’s rustic character. Guillemot is one of the quintessential KLWM producers, with wines that epitomize the local terroir and emphasize grace and elegance over power and structure. But do not be fooled into thinking that this means they lack aging potential; the Guillemots are very proud of their old wines and thankfully have the foresight to set aside a good supply and follow their wines’ development over the years. A recent tasting at the domaine included a 1989 and 1975 Savigny Blanc (that’s 35 years old, everyone!), as well as the ‘90, ‘88, ‘85, ‘82, ‘76, ’72, and ‘64 Rouge. There was not a single tired bottle in the bunch. We challenge anyone to find a better deal on Burgundies that are built to last like these . . . . Corton le Rognet et Corton Grand Cru: Vine Age, 50 Years / Soil Type, Ferruginous Oolite / Vineyard Area, 0.30ha . . . . Fermentation lasts for 15 to 16 days; Wine is fermented in wooden cuves; Regular punchdowns during the entire fermentation (2-3 times a day); Wine is aged in barrel (10% new for premier cru and grand cru) for 18 months; Wine is aged in bottle for 6 months before release." "The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Serpentières is the king of the cellar this year, unfurling in the glass with attractive aromas of plums, strawberries, cinnamon and orange rind. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and juicy, with nice depth at the core, supple structuring tannins and a deceptively open-knit profile for a wine that I suspect will develop for a surprisingly long time in bottle." 90-93 Points William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Quentin Jeannot Maranges La Fussière 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Maranges, Burgundy

"20% new oak; 60% 1year & 20% 2-3 year old barrels; 60 year old vines. Fussière is often considered the best of the Maranges vineyards for its southern exposure. Brilliant dark garnet core, loads of black cherry & underbrush in the nose. The mid-palate of the wine is compact and focused cherry and cassis fruit with structured mineral notes and lots of savory components that follow through to the extended finish. This is an excellent example of how good Maranges can be." Importer Notes, Misa Imports

Robert Chevillon Bourgogne Passetoutgrains 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir / Gamay from Bourgogne Passetoutgrains, Burgundy

"It would be a mistake to dismiss this Passetoutgrain as a repository for undesirable Gamay grapes and Pinot Noir leftovers that did not make the cut. At Domaine Chevillon, this humble wine is a thing of beauty: the product of old vines from just outside Nuits-Saint-Georges, it is made with the same loving care as the Chevillons’ noblest premiers crus. A blend of two-thirds Gamay with the balance of Pinot Noir, it has a gorgeous perfume of wild berries with a touch of white pepper. This soft, graceful red rises above and beyond its humble appellation. The result is a wine loaded with energy, spicy complexity, and supple tannins—bargain access to one of Burgundy’s established masters, ready to drink tonight." Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Roncières 2015, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Nuits St. Georges, Burgundy

"The expressive nose is compositionally quite similar to that of the Bousselots except that it's just a bit more deeply pitched. The clean, cool and sleek flavors display excellent delineation along with plenty of minerality, all wrapped in a wonderfully persistent and impeccably well-balanced if notably firm finale. This beauty is indisputably built-to-age. . ." 91-93 Points Allen Meadows

Robert Denogent Pouilly-Fuissé Les Cras Cuvée Claude Denogent Vieilles Vignes 2016, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Pouilly-Fuissé, Burgundy

"A notably more elegant nose flashes notes of pear liqueur, apple, acacia blossom and a whiff of iodine. Consistent with the more elegant nose, there is much better refinement to the more mineral-inflected flavors that deliver outstanding length if not necessarily more complexity on the saline, austere and beautifully textured finale. Here too patience is advised." 91-93 Points Allen Meadows

Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Gevrey Chambertin, Burgundy

"The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées contains one-third whole bunch fruit and is matured in 25% new oak. Nicolas Groffier mentioned that it was hard to taste in November and it has since changed now in bottle. It has a light, pure, floral bouquet with discrete oyster shell scents that develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple, very detailed entry that really took me by surprise with its elegance. This is a beautifully crafted wine from Nicolas with a sophisticated finish that punches well above its weight. This comes highly recommended. Tasted at the Domaine." 92 Points Neal Martin, Vinous

Robert-Denogent Mâcon-Villages Les Sardines 2016, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Macon, Burgundy

"A mildly exotic array is composed by notes of white peach, lychee, dried apricot and petrol. The dense and delicious middle weight flavors possess an almost oily texture that carries over to the naturally sweet and moderately firm finish that deliver excellent depth and persistence for what this is. Very fine quality for its level."

Roland Lavantureux Chablis Vauprin 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"What the Lavantureux family has done with this humble village parcel in their hometown of Lignorelles is indicative of their ambition to become one of the great estates of Chablis. A wine that was formerly blended into their village bottling is worked like a premier cru and is now capable of besting many a premier cru from this mighty northern Burgundian outpost for Chardonnay. Vauprin showcases the grape’s ability to produce a wine that is simultaneously both round and taut." Importer Notes, Dixon Brooke,  KermitLynch.com

Samuel Billaud Chablis Les Vaillons Vielles Vignes 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"The 2017 Chablis Vaillons Vieilles Vignes comes from vines just next to Séchet, around 70-years in age. It only sees stainless steel. It has a tightly wound bouquet with mainly Mirabelle and light chalky scents. I appreciate both the tension and focus here. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity: red apple, pear and a touch of kumquat, leading to a saline finish that feels pure and persistent. Very fine indeed." 91-93 Points Neal Martin, Vinous

Samuel Billaud Chablis Mont de Milieu 2016, 1.5L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"The 2016 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru was harvested between 25 and 30hl/ha, with 20% aged in wood the rest in stainless steel for 18 months. The slightly longer élevage engenders a more complex bouquet than the Montée de Tonnerre with yellow fruit, green apple, chalk and light musky scents that are very well defined. The palate is very well delineated with a crisp bead of acidity, poised and saline in the mouth and just when you think it will fan out, it segues into a linear and classically lined, understated finish. Excellent." 92 Points Vinous

Samuel Billaud Chablis Séchet Vieilles Vignes 2017, 0.75L

Sylvain Morey Santenay Grand Clos Rousseau 2015, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Santenay, Burgundy

"Sylvain was most excited to inherit this full .40-hectare holding from his father.  Planted in 1993, the Grand Clos Rousseau was always the top red wine from Jean-Marc Morey and always the most impressive old wine from his cellar.  Intensely aromatic, with rich red fruits, savory earthy tones and sweet tannins, this over-achiever often stands up to the best reds of the Cote de Beaune. Roughly 30 cases a year are available for the US market." Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Vincent Dampt Chablis Côte de Léchet 350 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"There is enough wood to notice framing the ripe, fresh and expressive nose that consists of yellow orchard fruit, petrol, sea breeze and soft citrus hints. There is excellent volume to the attractively textured and relatively lush flavors that display a touch of bitter lemon on the moderately complex finale. I wouldn't call this classic in style but it's interesting in its fashion if perhaps better suited to those who enjoy opulent Chablis." 89-91 Points Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

This chiseled and delicate effort is textbook Chevalières." 90 Points Allen Meadows, Burghound

Y. Clerget Volnay Clos du Verseuil 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Volnay, Burgundy

"Bright red-ruby. Musky, complex soil tones along with black cherry and mocha on the nose. Quite suave and silky on entry, conveying a relaxed quality (production here was 42 hectoliters per hectare) but no shortage of concentration. In fact, this is a wonderfully classy, supple wine with sexy sweetness and rocky energy (the mother rock is close to the surface here). Soil and spice notes add flavor interest. Consistent from start to finish, this quintessential, refined Volnay spreads out on the back end to saturate the mouth, with its tannins fully buffered by fruit." Vinous 92-94 Points

"Much more discreet, if not invisible, wood sets off pure, cool and restrained aromas of red currant, raspberry and soft floral wisps. There is really lovely vibrancy to the detailed, sleek and refined medium weight flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract that serves to buffer the distinctly firm tannic spine shaping the lingering and beautifully balanced finale. This too is really quite good and worth considering." Burghound 91-93 Points

Y. Clerget Volnay Les Caillerets 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Volnay, Burgundy

"Bright, dark red; not quite as ruby as the Clos du Verseuil. A slightly high-toned aroma of kirsch is quite primary and even a bit inky. Juicy and intensely flavored, showing terrific definition but also a distinct thickness of texture, no doubt partly due to the high percentage of millerandage in these vines (production was barely 20 hectoliters per hectare). Currently showing more fruit than soil in the middle palate but the very long finish reveals subtle earth tones. A wonderfully seamless wine with suave tannins and an exhilarating light touch." 92-94 Points Vinous

"There is an overt spiciness to the even more restrained nose that blends notes of both red and dark cherry, plum, violet, lavender and a whiff of warm earth. The sleek, intense and chiseled middle weight flavors flash ample minerality before terminating in a youthfully austere and wonderfully persistent finish that, like the Clos du Verseuil, is impeccably well-balance" 91-94 Points Burghound
