Zuccardi Malbec Serie A 2022, 0.75L
Valle de Uco from Altamira, Mendoza
“The varietal Serie A range includes wines from the "Argentinean" varieties, and the star of this range is, of course, the 2022 Serie A Malbec. Here they search for typicity from Valle de Uco, with freshness and flowers, red rather than black fruit, nice tannic structure and purity; they are not looking for complexity or limestone but varietal character, at which this excels. This has juiciness and structure and is fine-boned. It is very different from the Bonarda in this range. 600,000 bottles produced.” 92, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Nov 2022

Jean Foillard Fleurie 2021, 0.75L
Gamay from Fleurie, Beaujolais
"From vines that are 20-70 years old. A shy nose reluctantly offers up its aromas of mostly red berry fruit that is cut with floral and earth wisps. The sleek and attractively textured middleweight flavors possess adequate density while preserving good delineation that carries over to the youthfully austere, focused and balanced finish." 92 Allen Meadows, Burghound

Connétable Talbot 2019, 0.75L
Bordeaux Blend from St. Julien, Bordeaux
“So much sweet tobacco and currant on the nose here, following through to a full body with relatively soft tannins for the appellation. Berry and dark-chocolate character to this. Round tannins. Needs three or four years to soften. Second wine of Talbot.” 92, James Suckling, Jan 2022
“Solidly built, showing plum and cassis notes laced with an anise hint, while singed apple wood pervades on the finish, which also features a late twinge of tar. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2031. 19,166 cases made, 833 cases imported.” 90, Wine & Spirits Magazine

La Chenade 2021, 0.75L
Bordeaux Blend from Lalande de Pomerol, Bordeaux
“Floral strawberry and cherry fruits, there is a soft creamy scented element to the fruits on the nose. Such well-balanced acidity and brightness on the palate, a real kick of life and burst of flavour with red berries but a minerality that’s really to the fore - the crushed stone, wet slate, graphite and liquorice coming through giving nuance and angles while the soft, silky tannins glide over the tongue. This feels gently round and persistent, a good weight in the mouth, not dense as such but layers of flavour and cooling touches. You get the expansion and this is sustained. Not heavy but refined and understated. Gorgeous terroir in the glass, no frills here but such precision and identity. Ageing in 30% new oak. 20,000 bottle production.” 92, Georgina Hindle, Decanter, Apr 2022
“The 2021 La Chenade is soft, supple and super-expressive right out of the gate. Silky tannins wrap around a core of red cherry fruit, plum, mocha, spice and new leather, with pretty floral and savory top notes that come alive with a bit of time in the glass. La Chenade is all Merlot this year, as the Franc was used for the Cruzelles.” 91, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2023

Armand Heitz Meursault Les Perrieres 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy
"A touch of matchstick character is present on the aromas of mineral reduction, apple, citrus and a panoply of floral elements that include carnation and acacia. The super-sleek, intense and delicious middle weight flavors also possess a beguiling mid-palate texture while delivering excellent length on the relatively powerful, youthfully austere and impressively long finale. As lovely as this is, it's going to need to develop better depth over time." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Bret Brothers Pouilly Fuisse En Terres de Vergisson 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Pouilly Fuissé, Burgundy
"This marvelously incisive Pouilly-Fuissé is a blend of two parcels in Vergisson with two different soil types; both are cool terroirs that bring an exotic tropical note of passionfruit and pomelo to the wine along with a strong mineral underpinning. The texture has a lively acidity, but there is real ripeness to give the wines a delicious dynamic balance. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters, and the juice is fermented in older oak casks. "Moderately prominent wood can be found on the ripe and very spicy aromas of white fruit confit, orange peel, anise and exotic tea. There is again excellent volume and power to the larger-scaled flavors that brim with sappy dry extract before terminating in a caressing, stylish and complex finale. This intense mineral-driven effort is lovely and a wine that should amply reward mid-term cellaring." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 2021, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Chambolle Musisgny, Burgundy
“Bright, forward plummy fruit with accents of spice and leather dominate the aromas of this youthful, energetic wine. The texture is lively and fresh, and the accent is firmly on perfume rather than muscle. The light body and crisp acidity belie the subtle persistence on the palate. The wine is a blend of half declassified premier cru grapes from Les Plantes and half from the village-level portion of the Combe d'Orveau that were both picked on 21 September. The fruit is vinified with a very gentle hand, and fans of traditional Chambolle-Musigny should love this bottling. (Drink between 2025-2045).” 92, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Jun 2022

This is built on its minerality though ultimately, it's the intricate and finely wrought balance that makes this such a standout. Diebolt-Vallois Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Cramant, Champagne
“The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs is mostly based on 2020, picked in Chouilly, Cuis and Epernay. An immediate hit of saltiness on the nose announces that this is not about fruit but soil. Fine mousse and bright slenderness immediately spell elegance and verve. Concentration on the mid-palate, despite the svelte body, brings salty depth and a touch of blond baguette crust. Freshness, verve and elegance make this a quintessential, taut blanc de blancs. It's apero or oysters, you decide. Dosage is 3gr/L. Francis Boulard Petraea III Brut Nature NV, 0.75L

This is a terrific set of wines from Francis Boulard et Fille, which is now run by Francis’ daughter Delphine. Sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking yield Champagnes that are marked by delineation, focus and remarkable purity. The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Vieilles Vignes is a fine introduction for readers who are new to the wines, while the 2013 Brut Nature Les Rachais shows how special this vintage is in the right hands.” 92, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

It's a supple and well concentrated style with fine purity of fruit while the tannins are fine and chalky. It's a focused style with spice, delicate smoky notes and dark raspberry fruit. Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge Cuvee Les Arboises 2017, 1.5L
Cabernet Franc from Saumur, Loire
.“The 2017 Saumur Brézé Les Arboises, from the south-facing monopole that was planted on sand and silt topsoil over limestone bedrock in 1957, opens deep, intense and toasty on the concentrated and refreshing mineral, smoky and bloody nose that needs a lot of time to integrate its fruity aromas. Fermented in concrete and aged in barrels (80% new, 20% one year old) for 18 months, this is a full-bodied, silky, fresh and unadorned Cabernet Franc from 60-year-old vines. The finish is dry and clear but not extraordinarily complex or long. Honestly, I find this style too oaky, and on the finish, I miss a certain intensity, complexity and length, but I admit I don’t have experience with older vintages. Tasted in May 2021.” 92, Stephan reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Oct 2021

Saint-Damien Gigondas Vieilles Vignes 2021, 0.75L
Grenache / Mourvèdre from Gigondas, Rhône
“The 2021 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes is the only Gigondas produced by Domaine Saint-Damien in this complicated vintage. On the positive side, that means some old-vine fruit that would usually go into the special cuvées is present in the Vieilles Vignes. The result is an outstanding achievement laced with rose water, red currant and raspberry aromas, complemented by meaty and spicy gradations. Fleshy and polished, this stimulating 2021 red flawlessly integrates its 14.6% alcohol, dazzling with a juicy finish.” 92, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous Aug 2023
“The only cuvée to be bottled this vintage because of widespread frost, the 2021 Gigondas Classique Vieilles Vignes is a lovely effort, loaded with ripe cherries. An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, it's plush, ripe and concentrated, with a long, velvety finish. It's a standout effort that shouldn't be ignored. Tre Monti Thea Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva 2019, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva, Emilia Romagna
"The 2019 Sangiovese Romagna Superiore Thea opens slowly in the glass with an understated mix of sage and dusty dried roses, giving way to nuances of strawberry and mint. This is silky and elegant in feel with mineral-tinged tart wild berries carried by zesty acids, as pretty inner violet tones form toward the close. A coating of fine tannins lingers through the lightly structured finale, but they are sweet and round as vivid raspberry and blood orange notes slowly fade. The Thea is a single-vineyard Sangiovese refined in tonneaux for nine months, 40% new. The 2019 is very attractive, but give it another year or two of cellaring for the best results. Pyramid Valley Vineyards Sauvignon + 2023, 0.75L
Sauvignon Blanc from Canterbury, South Island
“The 2023 Sauvignon+ is 100% Sauvignon Blanc this year. However, the fruit is not all Marlborough, with a small portion (7%) of North Canterbury fruit included. The result is a retrained, elegant, herbal expression with sage and chamomile characters joining delicate red apple flavors. It is textured and has an appealing phenolic character that leaves you licking your lips and contributes a reassuring structural note on the quiet finish. A little more length would elevate this further. It is quite the antithesis of what you might consider classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, which means it's not just the acidity that makes this wine rather refreshing.” 92, Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, Apr 2024

Crystallum Chardonnay The Agnes 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Walker Bay, South Africa
"The 2018 The Agnes comes from five vineyards in Hemel-en-Aarde and Overberg, aged in 228- and 500-liter barrels with 10% new oak. It has a discreet bouquet with subtle pressed flower and shale-like aromas that suggest this is a Chardonnay for cellaring. The palate is wonderfully poised, revealing hints of vanilla and coconut flakes on the entry, countered by a crisp line of acidity and a pleasing tautness on the finish. Excellent." 92 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Nov 2019
“It’s always a pleasure to meet with the indefatigable Peter-Allan Finlayson, whose wines at Crystallum I have been shoveling praise upon since his debut vintage …. [he] was on hand to guide me through his latest releases, although he admitted that he had forgotten to bring one of them. Probably had his mind on other things: the impending 2017 harvest and the fact that now he oversees not just Crystallum but Gabrielskloof, whose wines I have reviewed separately. Hopefully the reviews speak for themselves, merely consolidating everything that I have written before, principally that these are some of South Africa's finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Attesting to that was the fine performance of his wine when served against the likes of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti of J-L Trapet at a lunch in Cape Town just a few days earlier. I asked about recent developments at Crystallum, and Fin—as he is known in these parts—told me that he had recently bought a piece of his own land for Crystallum, located around two kilometers past Creation, therefore outside the Hemel-en-Aarde region. At the moment he is still buying fruit from growers, but this single hectare of Pinot Noir is a start to obtaining "dirt" that he can call his own. As usual, these wines are highly recommended, although quantities remain frustratingly small.” Neal Martin, Vinous.com 2015/2017

The Chenin is the richest of these whites, in terms of palate feel. A touch of malolactic fermentation adds to that texture." 92 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Piedrasassi Syrah PS 2021, 0.75L
Syrah from Santa Barbara County, California
"The 2021 Syrah Santa Barbara County is scented of black raspberries, candied blackberries, cracked pepper, smoked meats and green olive. The medium-bodied palate is bright and chalky with restrained yet nuanced fruit and a long, latent finish. I would be inclined to drink it on the earlier side after a couple hours in a decanter, and its freshness will allow it to pair widely at the table. 2,436 cases produced." 92, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

Racines Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sta. Rita Hills, California
"Broad but precise in texture, this exudes green and yellow fruits interspersed with salted caramel and fennel. Justin Willett of Tyler Winery partnered with a group of mentors for the Racines label: Étienne de Montille and Brian Sieve of Domaine de Montille, as well as Rodolphe Péters of Champagne Pierre Péters for their still-in-the-works sparkling wine. The Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is built around the Wenzlau vineyard and spends 12 months in barrel before being racked to tank for a further six months." - 92 points, Decanter Magazine

Roar Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Santa Lucia Highlands, California
“Medium in body, fresh and driven, the 2022 Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands) is pretty forward in its red-fruited profile, but it also possesses a core of stern, rocky minerality. An enticing air of highlands herbs and sweet lavender adds further intrigue. Juicy, sweet raspberry, clove and a kick of toasty French oak sweetness make the 2022 an inviting choice for drinking over the next several years.” 92, Billy Norris, Vinous, Jul 2024

Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon Affinity 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Affinity is pliant, racy and super-expressive. A burst of red cherry fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol and licorice give this boisterous blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec tons of appeal. Soft contours and silky tannins add to its considerable appeal. This red blend from vineyards in Coombsville is terrific." 92 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com
