Bouchard Pere & Fils Le Corton 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Corton, Burgundy

"Very, very generous wood treatment is sufficiently toasty to presently dominate the otherwise layered nose of dark cherry, raspberry, earth and sauvage-inflected aromas. There is superb concentration, power and richness to the big-bodied flavors that possess excellent reserves of dry extract that helps to buffer the exceptionally firm tannic spine shaping the superbly long mineral-driven finish. This is at once impressive as hell but it's also very woody and while the underlying material appears to be more than sufficient to eventually integrate the oak, it will require time for this to happen." 93-95 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

Philipponnat Brut Cuvee 1522 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir / Chardonnay from Champagne, Champagne

94 The Wine Independent

"The 2016 Philipponnat Cuvée 1522 is crafted this year from a blend of 70% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay. Most of the pinot noir in this bottling hails from their historic vineyard of Le Léon in Aÿ, augmented by some additional fruit from the grand cru village of Verzy. All of the chardonnay comes from Mesnil-sur-Oger this year. A portion of the vins clairs for the Cuvée 1522 in 2016 were barrel-fermented and did not go through malolactic. The wine spent six years aging sur latte and was finished with a dosage of 4.25 grams per liter after disgorgement. It offers up a beautiful bouquet of apple, white peach, complex chalky soil tones, pâtissière, white flowers, a whisper of buttery oak and a touch of citrus zest in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, crisp and full-bodied, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent complexity and mineral undertow, refined mousse and a long, focused and seamlessly balanced, vibrant finish. This is a beautiful bottle of Champagne that is just starting to drink well and will be even better a decade down the road." 93+ John Gilman, View From The Cellar

Produttori del Barbaresco Don Fiorino Barbaresco Riserva 2016, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

"The 2016 Barbaresco Riserva will be available later this spring. It is introspective at the moment. although it is concentrated with licorice, fresh black cherry, cedar, and black pepper. It is a more brooding wine but retains its style, with leather, red plum, and balsamic, and as it opens it shows more fresh apricot. It is going to be a wine to hold onto and or drink over the coming two to three decades. As one of the most important and quality-minded co-operatives in the world, Produttori del Barbaresco is currently composed of 51 growers across Barbaresco. Founded in 1894 by Domizio Cavazza, the headmaster of the Royal Enological School of Alba, it was originally a collection of nine growers. Today the operations are managed by Aldo Vacca, who was formerly the assistant to Angelo Gaja for 15 years." 98 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

"Incredible aromas of white truffle, meat, wet earth, lightly burnt orange peel and pure fruit. Medium-bodied and very compact, with a block of silky tannins that run through the palate and then come out at the end with a gorgeous texture. It’s very drinkable now, but will age wonderfully. This is a special release. They never made a serious blended riserva in their history. Spring 2023 release. Drink or hold." 98 JamesSuckling.com

Dominus Estate 2016, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc / Petit Verdot from Yountville, California

"A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 8% Cabernet Franc aged in 40% new oak, the 2016 Proprietary Red Wine is deep purple-black in color and quite reticent at this youthful stage to begin, offering up subtle notions of potpourri, Indian spices, cigar box and iron ore over a core of crushed blackberries and black cherries with intermittent wafts of black and red currants, new leather and smoked meats. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a densely packed mid-palate and oodles of freshness framed by very ripe, finely grained tannins and laced with compelling earthy accents. It offers incredible vibrancy with tons of black and red fruit sparkle in the mid-palate leading to a provocative mineral element on the very long finish. If I could give more than 100 for this one, I would. To be released in May 2019."

Promontory Penultimate 2016, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Yountville, California

"The 2016 Penultimate is fascinating to taste next to its sibling, as it has all of the qualities of this great vintage - namely complexity, dimension and stature - just with less intensity. Bright saline notes give the 2016 its nervy personality, but there is plenty of finesse too. Lavender, sage, gravel and spice play off a core of dark fruit in this stylish Cabernet Sauvignon from the Promontory estate. Many years ago, Bill Harlan told me he wanted to show me something. He took out a set of maps and rolled them out on a table in the original Promontory winery. He talked of a place that sounded mystical, right out of a fairy tale. He called it 'the territory.' The place was Promontory. Whereas Harlan Estate and Bond remain very linked to the specific eras when they were founded, Promontory is all new. It is where vineyard and winery experiments happen first. Promontory has ascended into the stratosphere in a very brief period of time. These days, the Harlan empire is run by Will Harlan and Winemaker Cory Empting, who have entrusted Winemaker David Cilli with Promontory. Cilli, in turn, has responded with set of stunning wines culminating with the extraordinary 2018. In addition to being made from a very special and rugged piece of land, Promontory is distinguished by its relatively long élevage (by Napa standards) in cask, which is not seen at all in Napa, with the exception of a few very old school estates." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Sean Thackrey Proprietary Red Orion Rossi Vineyard 2016, 0.75L
from St. Helena, California

"Lastly, the 2016 Orion comes from a single vineyard and is a field blend (the blend isn't specified) from vines planted in 1905. It's a gorgeous effort with a semi-opaque ruby/purple color as well as a smorgasbord-like array of red, blue, and black fruits, toasted spices, candied orange, herbes de Provence, and tobacco. Deep, layered, and full-bodied on the palate, it has remarkable purity of fruit, velvety tannins, a great mid-palate, and one heck of a finish." 96, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com
