Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Spitzer Rotes Tor Federspiel 2018, 0.75L
Grüner Veltliner from Wachau, Niederösterreich

"Medium yellow-green color with silver highlights. A hint of meadow herbs, fine yellow tropical fruit, candied orange zest, and a mineral touch. Complex and juicy, with a fine fruity sweetness, fresh acidity, and yellow fruit on the delicately salty finish; good length, has potential." 92 Peter Moser, Falstaff Magazin

Bouchard Père & Fils Meursault Les Perrieres 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy

"The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières is showing very nicely from bottle, offering up a youthful but already expressive bouquet of citrus oil, pear, blanched almonds, pastry cream and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive, it's elegantly textural, with fine concentration, tangy acids, and a precise, mineral finish. While this Perrières is already deceptively charming, if it gains in depth and complexity with bottle age as much as I suspect it will, this score may seem conservative." 93 William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Domaine Taupenot-Merme Saint Romain Blanc 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Saint-Romain, Burgundy

"Pale yellow robe with green hue. Saint Romain has notes of white flowers and toasted bread on the nose when young. When it has been aged, the nose changes to Mirabelle (yellow plums) and light honey. In the mouth, its liveliness, minerality and body make it very approachable when young." Winemaker Notes

Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis Les Preuses 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru brings together all the best elements of the house style. Brisk and inviting with terrific energy, the Preuses has so much to offer. Like the Vaillons Vieilles Vignes, the Preuses was vinified in wood, and yet it shows better oak integration and a greater sense of completeness. A kick of Preuses mineral and floral notes punctuate the finish."92-94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

There is very good Chablis character to the aromas of petrol, quinine, tidal pool and various white-fleshed fruit scents that are trimmed in noticeable if discreet wood toast. The oak influence can be discerned on the palate as well as the firm, serious and youthfully austere finale. 91-93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Le Domaine d'Henri Chablis 1er Cru L'Homme Mort Vieilles Vignes 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"The 2018 Chablis L’Homme Mort Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru was picked on September 12 and 13, and matured 72% in stainless steel and the remainder in 228- and 600-liter barrels of 2–4 years old. This has a complex and enticing bouquet of yellow stone fruit, apple peel and light stony scents. The palate is very well balanced with a slightly honeyed texture on the opening. Vivacious, with energy to spare toward the finish, this is a very fine "Dead Man" that should live on for another 10–15 years. Excellent." 92 Neal Martin, Vinous

Robert-Denogent Pouilly-Fuissé La Croix Vieilles Vignes 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Pouilly Fuissé, Burgundy

"Once again there is a suggestion of oxidation lurking on the nose of white flowers and notably ripe apricot, peach and pineapple scents. The succulent, powerful and overtly mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess excellent intensity and a lovely texture while displaying fine length on the bitter lemon-inflected finale..." 89-91 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

"The palate is fresh and vibrant on the nose with touches of dried honey, hazelnut and smoke, building nicely .... Very fine." 91 Neal Martin, Vinous

Odinstal Riesling Vulkan 2018, 0.75L
Riesling from Pfalz, Pfalz

"The 2018 Riesling Vulkan opens with a pure, fresh and herbal, slightly flinty and still yeasty bouquet of crushed stones. Lush and round on the palate, this is a bone-dry, linear, fresh and elegant, very pure and grippy Riesling from Odinstal. The finish is salty, piquant and tight. A gorgeous wine that was bottled with no more than 29 milligrams per liter of total SO2. Tasted in Odinstal in December 2019." 93 Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Crystallum Chardonnay The Agnes 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Walker Bay, South Africa

"The 2018 The Agnes comes from five vineyards in Hemel-en-Aarde and Overberg, aged in 228- and 500-liter barrels with 10% new oak. It has a discreet bouquet with subtle pressed flower and shale-like aromas that suggest this is a Chardonnay for cellaring. The palate is wonderfully poised, revealing hints of vanilla and coconut flakes on the entry, countered by a crisp line of acidity and a pleasing tautness on the finish. Excellent." 92 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Nov 2019

“It’s always a pleasure to meet with the indefatigable Peter-Allan Finlayson, whose wines at Crystallum I have been shoveling praise upon since his debut vintage …. [he] was on hand to guide me through his latest releases, although he admitted that he had forgotten to bring one of them. Probably had his mind on other things: the impending 2017 harvest and the fact that now he oversees not just Crystallum but Gabrielskloof, whose wines I have reviewed separately. Hopefully the reviews speak for themselves, merely consolidating everything that I have written before, principally that these are some of South Africa's finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Attesting to that was the fine performance of his wine when served against the likes of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti of J-L Trapet at a lunch in Cape Town just a few days earlier. I asked about recent developments at Crystallum, and Fin—as he is known in these parts—told me that he had recently bought a piece of his own land for Crystallum, located around two kilometers past Creation, therefore outside the Hemel-en-Aarde region. At the moment he is still buying fruit from growers, but this single hectare of Pinot Noir is a start to obtaining "dirt" that he can call his own. As usual, these wines are highly recommended, although quantities remain frustratingly small.” Neal Martin, Vinous.com 2015/2017

32 Winds Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast, California

"The 2018 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is a classic Sonoma Coast Chardonnay from the Martinelli and Quail Hill vineyards. It spent 11 months in 25% new French oak, with 20% of the blend brought up in concrete eggs. Lots of orchard fruits, pear, honeysuckle, and brioche emerge from the glass of this soft, more approachable, delicious Chardonnay , which has a kiss of background oak, medium body, and outstanding length." 91 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2020

32 Winds Platt Vineyard Chardonnay 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast, California

"Brought up in a mix of 40% concrete eggs and barrel, 15% being new, the medium gold-hued 2018 Chardonnay Platt Vineyard has lots of buttered citrus, exotic flowers, Meyer lemon, toasted almonds, and a hint of brioche to go with a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, seamless Chardonnay that has loads of character. It's beautifully done, has plenty of richness, a clean, bright spine of acidity, and a great finish." 95 points, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2020

Anthill Farms Chardonnay Peugh Vineyard 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Russian River Valley, California

"The 2018 Chardonnay Peugh comes from a vineyard originally planted in 1887 and grafted to Chardonnay in 1944. It was made with 20% new Austrian oak and has bright notions of petrichor, lime peel, green herbs and green pineapple with honeyed notes in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and satiny, swelling with savory flavors that are refreshed by mineral accents and lively acidity, and it finishes very long. The dynamic dichotomy of brightness and savory bass tones is compelling and provides a hint of what this may be like with another five years in bottle." 94+ points Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Enfield Wine Co. Chardonnay Citrine 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from California, California

"The 2018 Chardonnay “Citrine” bottling from Enfield Wine Company is composed from fruit from four different vineyards: Rorick Heritage, Heron Lake, Haynes and Brosseau Vineyard, with the average age of the vines fully forty years of age. While I do not have any specific information on its winemaking, it seems to have seen at least some of the blend fermented or raised in cement eggs. The bouquet is bright and classy, offering up scents of apple, lemon blossoms, a touch of lavender, a fine base of soil tones, citrus peel and a bit of beeswax in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and nicely soil-driven in personality, with a good core, fine focus and grip, zesty acids and a long, nascently complex and quite classy finish. This is a nicely cool fruit chardonnay at 12.9 percent octane, with plenty of personality and the structure to age very well indeed. Good juice in a nicely offbeat style that recalls early vintages of Chalone, with less new oak. 2020-2035." 91 Points John Gilman, View From the Cellar

Racines Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sta. Rita Hills, California

"Broad but precise in texture, this exudes green and yellow fruits interspersed with salted caramel and fennel. Justin Willett of Tyler Winery partnered with a group of mentors for the Racines label: Étienne de Montille and Brian Sieve of Domaine de Montille, as well as Rodolphe Péters of Champagne Pierre Péters for their still-in-the-works sparkling wine. The Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is built around the Wenzlau vineyard and spends 12 months in barrel before being racked to tank for a further six months." - 92 points, Decanter Magazine

The Joy Fantastic Chardonnay 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sta. Rita Hills, California

"This is a fascinating bottling that holds interest for repeat sips and is likely to age very well. Yuzu-peel, underripe apricot, honeysuckle and light toast aromas frame the nose. The palate zings with racy sharp laser-focused acidity, delivering flavors of bright grapefruit, crisp melon rind and tart apples." 94 Points Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast

Whitcraft Winery Chardonnay Pence Ranch 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sta. Rita Hills, California

"Clean and precise aromas of packed white flowers, tropical citrus and lime soda show a tinge of tart dairy on the nose of this single-vineyard expression. There's tremendous tension on the palate, where citrus-spray elements give an edge to the more generous nectarine and pineapple flavors. It also offers a finish that leaves the mouth invigorated." 94 Points Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast
