Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru la Fussiere 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Maranges, Burgundy

“A more expressive and admirably pure nose freely offers up its array of red pinot fruit, spice and subtle floral nuances. The intense and beautifully delineated medium weight flavors possess a borderline pungent minerality, indeed the mouthfeel is like rolling a small pebbles on one's tongue, all wrapped in a long, firm and youthfully austere finale. Lovely and understated”. 89-91, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr 2024

Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin 2022, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy

“Here too there is evident floral influence suffusing the ripe aromas of Granny Smith apples, pear and hazelnut. The dense, delicious and mouthcoating medium weight flavors possess plenty of sappy dry extract that is buffered by a firm and bright acid spine on the lightly stony, long and balanced finale. Fine quality here”. 89-91, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jun 2024

Benjamin Leroux St. Romain Sous le Chateau 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Saint-Romain, Burgundy

“The 2021 Saint-Romain Sous Le Château has a fragrant nose, with green apple, grapefruit, linden and a touch of blackcurrant leaf. The palate is well balanced with Granny Smith, nectarine and a touch of ginger. It showcases fine depth, with admirable concentration on the finish for a Saint-Romain.” 89-91, Neal Martin, Vinous, Nov 2022

Buisson-Charles Meursault Vieilles Vignes 2022, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy

“Here too there is enough reduction to overshadow the fruit. By contrast, there is both good verve and freshness to the caressing and beautifully textured flavors that also flash ample minerality on the youthfully austere bitter zest-inflected finale. This is very good for a villages-level wine and one that should age gracefully”. 89-91, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jun 2024

Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet Les Chambrees 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy

"From three lieux-dits, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Chambrées has a tightly-wound bouquet with red apple, lime and crushed stone. The palate is quite intense and weighty in the mouth, rounded like a Meursault yet counterbalanced by a keen line of acidity that maintains focus on the finish." This is my inaugural exploration of the wines of Caroline Morey, aka Pierre-Yves Colin’s ‘better half.’ The wines were inherited from her family and hewn from a different cloth, even though they have been made in the same winery in Chassagne since 2017. The one major difference compared to PYCM is that she uses slightly less new oak, around 20-25% instead of 30-35% - not to mention half-a-dozen reds. Readers should note that the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Village includes fruit from declassified Premier Crus from Les Caillerets and Chaumées. Pierre-Yves explains the approach to the reds: ‘The reds undergo little extraction, and Caroline did not pursue more colour or tannins; all the cuvées include 30% to 50% whole bunches with a maximum two-week cuvaison during which there are only two or three pigeage and a little remontage. There is also a shorter barrel maturation; they’re racked in October, blended in tank and bottled in January.’" 89-91 Neal Martin, Vinous

Pierre Girardin Meursault Les Narvaux 2022, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy

“A slightly broader ranging nose reflects notes of pear, apple, carnation, mineral reduction and crushed anise. There is slightly better richness, density and volume to the enveloping and caressing yet quite punchy flavors that deliver fine length on the balanced and mildly austere finale that offers just a bit more depth.” 89-91, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jun 2024

Sylvain Cathiard Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits 'Aux Chaumes' 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Bourgogne, Burgundy

"The 2022 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Aux Chaumes, which comes from the border of the Vosne appellation, has a more elegant and refined bouquet compared to the regular bottling sans lieu-dit. The palate is well-structured with firm grip, a little drier and more sinewy in style with admirable length on the finish." 89-91, Neal Martin, Vinous, Jan 2024

“ A slightly more elegant nose freely offers up its combination of red cherry, raspberry and discreet spice nuances. There is both good richness and minerality to the delicious and vibrant middleweight flavors that possess a bit more overall depth on the balanced and youthfully austere finale. One to consider, especially if you like to age wines from the Hautes Côtes.” Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2024
