Tre Monti Thea Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva 2019, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva, Emilia Romagna
"The 2019 Sangiovese Romagna Superiore Thea opens slowly in the glass with an understated mix of sage and dusty dried roses, giving way to nuances of strawberry and mint. This is silky and elegant in feel with mineral-tinged tart wild berries carried by zesty acids, as pretty inner violet tones form toward the close. A coating of fine tannins lingers through the lightly structured finale, but they are sweet and round as vivid raspberry and blood orange notes slowly fade. The Thea is a single-vineyard Sangiovese refined in tonneaux for nine months, 40% new. The 2019 is very attractive, but give it another year or two of cellaring for the best results. (Drink between 2024-2028)" 92 Eric Guido, Vinous

Venica & Venica Pinot Grigio Jesera 2019, 0.75L
Pinot Grigio from Collio, Friuli Venezia Giulia
"The 2019 Pinot Grigio Jesera has a pretty pink color with copper hues strewn throughout. It’s wonderfully fresh and lifted, showing white strawberry, apple, a dusting of confectioners’ sugar and hints of candied ginger. Silky textures flesh out across the senses, weightier than expected yet perfectly balanced by brisk acids, taking on a more savory persona, as notes of peach and melon give way to zesty exotic spices. There’s an almost-Asian peppery note here coupled with the wine’s inner florals that excites the senses. The Jesera really makes the case for skin-contact Pinot Grigio and will appeal to a broad range of palates." 92 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Casal Pilozzo Colle Gaio The Old White 2007, 0.75L
Malvasia del Lazio from Lazio, Lazio
"The 2007 Colle Gaio explodes from the glass with a heady and layered display of musky dried mangos and peach skins, as notes of lanolin and crushed dried flowers bring you back to earth. This possesses depths of silky textures, balancing savory and sweet with an almondy richness that mixes with salty minerals and ripe apricot to create a sensation that seems more like food than wine. A glycerol-like coating of fruit extract and liquid inner florals lingers incredibly long as the 2007 tapers off to nuances of candied ginger, hazelnut and a bitter yet lovely twang of lemon pith. At the age of 14, this Malvasia del Lazio is rocking!" 94 Points Eric Guido, Vinous

"A blend of the same four grapes (Trebbiano, Malvasia, Verdicchio and Grechetto) but, in this instance, the juice is left to ferment on the lees for a period of two weeks or more, extracting all of the flavors, colors and textures of its fruit. The result is a wine of often deep golden color and penetrating minerality with hints of herbs, particularly anise, and wild flowers. There are approximately 4,000 bottles produced annually of this cuvée, the overwhelming majority of which comes to the USA." Producer Notes

Bisson Portofino Ciliegiolo 2021, 0.75L
Ciliegiolo from Portofino, Liguria
"Is a traditional red grape variety that is rarely seen. Piero Lugano vinifies it to showcase its light and fruity character. When presenting it, we group this wine with our classic series of Rosés as it is released in the spring following the prior year’s harvest. Lugano proudly maintains this variety in both the Trigoso and Campegli vineyards situated in the hills above Sestri Levante and Chiavari, respectively. It is vinified dry, tastes of red cherry and wild berries and its brilliant cherry color is a particular joy to behold. Approximately 400 cases are imported for the US market annually." Time in the glass brings out aromatic intensity and inner perfume. Spice and blood orange accents lend an exotic quality to this dark, layered Barolo. Brovia Barolo 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"On a shortlist of "annata" wines to buy from Piedmont this year is the Brovia 2019 Barolo. Made from a blend of fruit from Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba, this wine delivers a very sharp and chiseled performance that puts a priority on directness, freshness and length. This pretty wine has a pronounced fruity side and a mineral side, and these two parts converge beautifully. Brovia Barolo Brea Ca` Mia 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"With the cream-colored label, the 2019 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia is another standout wine from one of the most collectible producers in the appellation. The wine from vintners Elena Brovia and Alex Sanchez is especially sharp, focused and polished. You get a lot of satisfaction here and sophistication too, with an amazing sense of clarity and depth. Wild berry, cassis, blood orange, iris and campfire ash emerge from the bouquet. There is drying mineral on the silky close. This is one of my favorite wines of the vintage." 98 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
"Vigna Ca' Mia is in the most southeasterly part of the Brea MGA in Serralunga. Definitely the most representative wine of this 'menzione', the wine is very pale ruby in colour with an intense aroma of violet and red currants which then opens up to reveal sweet, exotic spices with touches of linden tree and camphor depth. This interpretation exhibits elegant tannins, between chalk and dust in terms of texture, with crisp acidity and a good, slightly bitter finish which imparts character and length to the wine. Drinking Window: 2022-2030." 95 Decanter

Brovia Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"Brovia hits it out of the ballpark with this set of wines from the 2019 vintage. The 2019 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a darker, broader expression that stands on its own thanks to that special intensity. This expression veers toward dark fruit and black cherry, and there is a lot of iron ore or rusty nail at the back. The wine is almost sanguine in character, but in a manner that enhances all the other beautiful characteristics on hand. The mouthfeel is slightly more open-knit and rich, making this a better pairing partner to hearty meat dishes. Production is 5,000 bottles." 97 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Ferrando Carema Etichetta Bianca 2018, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Carema, Piedmont
"If there is any wine that defines the Ferrando “oeuvre” it is this one: the white label Carema. No single wine in our portfolio is more illustrative of our work than this brilliant rendition of Nebbiolo. Produced exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape planted in a series of vineyards that sit beneath Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) in a broad amphitheatre with full southern exposure overlooking the river, Dora Baltea, that runs from the snow-capped mountains south through the Valle d’Aosta into the northwestern range of Piedmont slicing the city of Ivrea in half. The vines are trained in a special way on pergola (known as “tupin” in local dialect) to obtain maximum exposure to the sun in this high altitude district and are planted to soils that are dominated by slate. The appellation of Carema is extremely small: only 16 hectares (approximately 40 acres) are planted to the vine..." Rosenthal Wine Merchant

G. D. Vajra Barolo Ravera 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"Lifted and herbaceous, the 2017 Barolo Ravera is noted by aromas of fresh pine, ripe red cherry, licorice, and menthol. The palate has depth without weight and is noted by ripe raspberry fruit, apricot, and black tea. The G.D. Vajra estate is based within the commune of Barolo, where Giuseppe and Aldo Vajra helm the winemaking responsibilities. Giuseppe, who took more of a leadership role in 2008, has been instrumental in continuing to develop the family estate, while Isonzo Vajra leads in vineyard management. Most recently they have completed the expansion of their cellar space, and they are also releasing their wines a touch later to allow the additional time in bottle to soften any harsh edges. As of the 2019 vintage, both the G.D.Vajra and Luigi Baudana estates are certified organic." 96 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com
"The 2017 Barolo Ravera is gorgeous right out of the gate. I am so impressed with its depth and pedigree. Rose petal, sweet red berry fruit, lavender, spice and dried herbs are all finely delineated in a Barolo of tremendous presence. Orange peel, cinnamon and cedar develop later, adding shades of dimension. Time in the glass brings out the wine's stature and power. The 2017 is going to be fascinating to follow. "The 2017 Barolo Bricco Delle Viole is the darker fruited of the G.D. Vajra sites and has rounded floral aromatics of crushed roses, resin, and cranberry cocktail. The palate is ripe and inviting, with building structure and notes of fresh red cherry, blood orange, and clove. The warmth of the vintage is felt without sacrificing lift. Drink 2025-2050. The G.D. G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste Di Rose 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"With fruit from higher-elevation vineyards in the village of Barolo, the 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is quite elegantly downplayed and fragile. The wine reveals wild berry, cassis and lots of blue flower or lilac. A pretty mineral note recalls crushed limestone and is present through the long and polished mouthfeel. This wine overperforms, considering the challenges of this vintage that saw extreme weather, from spring frost to scorching summer temperatures. These vineyard sites performed better than most. Some 4,800 bottles were released." 94 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
"The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose has bright aromatics of candied raspberry, apricot, anise, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and notes of dried wild strawberry, fresh roses, and mineral-rich earth. This wine is open and inviting, while maintaining freshness and drive. "The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is pretty, supple and inviting. Some of the tannins need to resolve, but this is a young Barolo after all. The Coste di Rose doesn't have the sensuality of the Albe or the pedigree of the Viole, but it nevertheless has so much to give. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint, crushed rocks and sage are some of the many notes that linger. I won't be surprised if the 2017 is even better than this note suggests once it softens a bit." 93 Antonio Galloni, VInous

Guido Porro Langhe Nebbiolo Camilu 2022, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Langhe, Piedmont
."Don’t be fooled: this is a simple Langhe Nebbiolo in name and in price, but there is much more to it. The grapes are sourced from parcels adjacent to two legendary Barolo crus in the commune of Serralunga d’Alba: Lazzarito and the fabled Vigna Rionda. Having tasted Porro’s Baroli from these two sites, I infer that the Lazzarito portion provides this Nebbiolo with its surprising finesse, in the form of plush, toothsome fruit and a lovely perfume of dried flowers. The Vigna Rionda portion, conversely, supplies power and earthy grip. You’ll find enough structure to take this rosso seriously, but not enough to keep you from gulping it down unabashedly." —Anthony Lynch, Kermit Lynch Imports

Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"A sweet perfume lifts from the 2017 Barolo Cerretta, with fresh violets, kirsch, cinnamon, and sage. The palate is energetic with forward fruit through the mid-palate with persistence, with tea leaf and present but well-integrated tannins. The Cerretta displays the elegance that is possible within the 2017 vintage. Drink 2022-2040. Since 2009, Luigi Baudana has been under the operation and ownership of the G.D. Vajra estate from Barolo. As with the Vajra estate, Giuseppe and Aldo manage the winemaking process, along with Giuseppe’s brother Isidoro, the vineyard manager. They continue to consult with Luigi for his understanding of the land and experience. They utilize primarily 15- to 17-hectoliter Slavonian barrels for aging, as the size of the cellar dictates. For the Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba bottling, selections are made from the crus of Baudana, Cerretta, and Costabella. With the 2019 vintage, they are now certified organic. The Valferana is complex and wonderfully deep from start to finish. Valferana is the cooler of the two single vineyard Gattinaras that are bottled separately here. The 2018 is a special wine." 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Mar 2022

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2018, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont
“Packaged in its distinctive brown paper label, the Produttori del Barbaresco 2018 Barbaresco is a beautifully lean and luminous expression of Nebbiolo, and that pretty color should remain intact over time. The aromas are bold and ripe with dark and purple fruit, but the bouquet shows interesting twists with earth, truffle, licorice and grilled herb. As the wine opens in the glass, you begin to notice heavier aromas of raisin and dried apricot.” 93 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Sottimano Barbaresco Pajoré 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont
Here's a beautifully elegant and fine expression of Nebbiolo from Treiso. The Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Pajoré shows an earthy personality with crushed stone and potting soil that frame a pretty core of red and purple fruits. I love the depth and complexity of this wine and the slightly more structured tannins that give this wine power and importance. 95, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
"Plenty of red fruit with cranberry and watermelon undertones. Fresh flowers, too. Full-bodied with tannins that are back-loaded and give you a punch at the end of the palate. The center-palate has bright flavors of strawberry and orange with hints of flowers. Try after 2025." 94, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com
"The 2019 Barbaresco Pajorè is dense and quite closed in on itself. Then again, that is Pajorè. There's terrific depth and density here, but not quite the power of some recent releases. That's not a bad thing, as the more restrained style allows the nuance to come through. This is an especially refined edition of the Pajorè. Today, the Pajorè is quite compact and a bit of a bruiser, but there's terrific fruit intensity that just needs time to blossom. (Drink between 2026-2041)" 93+, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"The 2019 Barolo Castiglione is elegant, translucent and classy. Crushed red berry fruit, orange peel, mint and cinnamon all grace this elegant, wonderfully nuanced Barolo from Vietti. I especially admire the energy here. In many vintages, the Castiglione is easygoing and quite accessible, but I see the 2019 needing a few more years to come into its own. I especially admire its focus and cut." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Vietti Nebbiolo Perbacco 2020, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Langhe, Piedmont
"The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco is another terrific entry-level wine from Vietti. In this vintage, the Perbacco is especially fine. Sweet dried cherry, herbs, mint, crushed flowers, anise and orange peel grace this striking, alluring Nebbiolo. There's tons of depth and sheer pedigree, things that have not always been present in recent editions. For years, Perbacco was a very serious wine - some might say almost too serious - for its peer group. Then Vietti pivoted to a simpler style. With the 2020, Perbacco seems to once again be a wine that overdelivers, big time. Quite frankly, the 2020 Perbacco is more satisfying than many Barbarescos and Barolos I tasted this year. (Drink between 2022-2030)" 92, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Vietti Roero Arneis 2022, 0.75L
Arneis from Roero, Piedmont
"The 2022 Roero Arneis is fresh herbs and floral with tarragon, white flowers, and white peach. Medium-bodied and revealing fresh orchard fruit, saline, and notes of basil, it has texture but surprising freshness and is really lovely at this youthful stage. Drink it over the next several years" 90 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, May 2023
"Straw-yellow colour with fresh floral, citrus and melon aromas, and notes of minerals and almonds. A dry, medium-bodied wine with fresh acidity. Well-balanced, elegant and with good complexity and persistence. Great as an aperitif with light hors d’oeuvres, crudités, seafood, salads, light soups, simply prepared veal, pork, chicken and creamy cheese." Winemaker Notes

de Forville Barbaresco 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont
"This is the standard-bearer for the estate. The vines are planted exclusively within the confines of Barbaresco and are scattered among various 'crus', including Rabaja and Pozzo. The average age of the vines is 35 years. After harvest, the juice is fermented in stainless steel for approximately two weeks; then the wine is racked into large oak 'botti' to age at least 18 additional months and frequently longer before being bottled. This wine is emblematic of the work done at the De Forville estate: the wine is rigorously traditional, marrying the finesse of Barbaresco with the alluring aromas and flavors of truffle, earth, berries, rose, tar and leather and carrying, most important of all, a backbone of sweet, dusty tannins that give length and breed." Calabretta Cala Cala Rosso NV, 0.75L
Nerello Mascalese / Nerello Cappuccio from Etna, Sicily
"Savory and soulful, this lithe red opens with earthy aromas of tilled earth, eucalyptus oil, blue flower, game and underbrush. A blend of multiple vintages of wine made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grown on Mount Etna, it offers ripe raspberry, orange-zest, baking-spice, saline, mineral and gamy notes. Smooth, fine-grained tannins provide support. It's a bit funky but loaded with flavor and personality." 90 Points Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

Eduardo Torres Acosta IGT Rosso Arenaria 2019, 0.75L
Nerello Mascalese from Terre Siciliane, Sicily
"The 2019 Nerello Mascalese Arenaria lifts from the glass with a dazzling bouquet of incense, dried violets, spiced tangerine and cherry pits. This is silky-smooth and elegant, with depths of red berries laced with lavender under an air of blue and purple florals. Tannins slowly build, creating a structured finish; yet there’s a pleasant inner sweetness that lingers and keeps me looking back to the glass. The 2019 Arenaria is simply stunning, and to think that this is the first vintage. This is from a half-hectare, north-facing parcel, just outside of the Etna zone, on Mt. Portella at 700 meters. However, the soils aren’t volcanic, but instead sub-marine sandstone with clay and quartz. I can’t wait to see what a few years of cellaring will add to this already beautiful wine." 93 Eric Guido, Vinous
