Bosco/Vermentino/Albarola from Cinque Terre, Linguria

"Made from a blend of several traditional local grape varieties: Bosco (60% of the blend), Vermentino (20%) and Albarola (20%). The vineyards that produce this wine are situated on south-facing slopes in the hamlet of Volastra in the town of Riomaggiore, the heart of the breathtaking Cinque Terre region. In this instance, [winemaker] Pierluigi Lugano opts to leave this cuvée on the lees for an extended period of time, respecting the old traditions of the region. The result is a fuller-bodied, earthy wine of immense character, almost briny, with a deeper golden tint to its color than is found in his other whites and marked by the aromas of heather, broom and juniper."

"If there is any wine that defines the Ferrando “oeuvre” it is this one: the white label Carema. No single wine in our portfolio is more illustrative of our work than this brilliant rendition of Nebbiolo. Produced exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape planted in a series of vineyards that sit beneath Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) in a broad amphitheatre with full southern exposure overlooking the river, Dora Baltea, that runs from the snow-capped mountains south through the Valle d’Aosta into the northwestern range of Piedmont slicing the city of Ivrea in half. The vines are trained in a special way on pergola (known as “tupin” in local dialect) to obtain maximum exposure to the sun in this high altitude district and are planted to soils that are dominated by slate. ."Don’t be fooled: this is a simple Langhe Nebbiolo in name and in price, but there is much more to it. The grapes are sourced from parcels adjacent to two legendary Barolo crus in the commune of Serralunga d’Alba: Lazzarito and the fabled Vigna Rionda. Having tasted Porro’s Baroli from these two sites, I infer that the Lazzarito portion provides this Nebbiolo with its surprising finesse, in the form of plush, toothsome fruit and a lovely perfume of dried flowers. The Vigna Rionda portion, conversely, supplies power and earthy grip. "Olives have been grown at Montenidoli since Etruscan time. We currently grow the Moraiolo and Correggiolo varieties; the former provides body, the latter perfume. Our olive trees are organically grown and pruned yearly. The harvest, by hand, begins in November and continues until just before Christmas. Our EVO [extra virgin olive] oil is in fact extra extra virgin: at the time of pressing its acidity is less than 0.20%, which is far below the 1% maximum allowed acidity for EVO oils. Montenidoli’s EVO oil emerges from the presses opaque and brash, with powerful vegetal aromas. Throughout its youth, it remains strongly flavored, with pronounced artichoke accents that make it more of a food to be served over bread than a condiment. Our EVO oil is extremely healthy; It’s an excellent source of good (LDL) cholesterol and is rich in vitamins." Montenidoli
