Val delle Corti Chianti Classico Riserva 2018, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Chianti Classico, Tuscany

“This is an impressive new release from Val delle Corti in Radda in Chianti. With 5,000 bottles released, the 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva shows an immediate level of austerity and complexity that relaxes to display dark fruit, earth, rusty nail and candied orange peel. There is a Pinot-Noiresque quality to this wine that makes it very attractive. I heartily recommend this under-the-radar discovery. Fruit comes from a cool site at 450 meters in elevation with calcareous marl soils with lots of rock. The vines were planted in 1974.” 94 Wine Advocate.

Montevertine Toscana Rosso 2020, 0.75L
Sangiovese / Canaiolo / Colorino from Tuscany, Tuscany

"The 2020 Montevertine is outrageously beautiful, just as it was from barrel. Rich and sumptuous, the 2020 possesses tremendous fruit purity and exceptional balance. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and sweet spice abound in an exceptional wine that delivers the goods. The 2020 is a wine that marries the classicism of Montevertine with the solar intensity of today's harvests. Martino Manetti excelled in both 2020 and 2021. The 2020s are shaping up to be modern-day classics. They offer a stunning mix of precision and power, tempered by a more moderate growing season. The 2021s are a bit richer but also show tremendous harmony. I tasted all the 2021s from cask after a first blending of all the lots. As has been the case for a number of years, I continue to be impressed by the Montevertine, a wine that sometimes gets less attention than the flagship Pergole Torte." 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Tre Monti Thea Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva 2019, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva, Emilia Romagna

"The 2019 Sangiovese Romagna Superiore Thea opens slowly in the glass with an understated mix of sage and dusty dried roses, giving way to nuances of strawberry and mint. This is silky and elegant in feel with mineral-tinged tart wild berries carried by zesty acids, as pretty inner violet tones form toward the close. A coating of fine tannins lingers through the lightly structured finale, but they are sweet and round as vivid raspberry and blood orange notes slowly fade. The Thea is a single-vineyard Sangiovese refined in tonneaux for nine months, 40% new. The 2019 is very attractive, but give it another year or two of cellaring for the best results. (Drink between 2024-2028)" 92 Eric Guido, Vinous

Cabreo Toscana Il Borgo 2018, 0.75L
Sangiovese / Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from Tuscany, Tuscany

"This is a very pretty, with currant, cherry and some mahogany and cigar-box character. It’s medium-to full-bodied with tight, linear tannins that are long and very intense. Polished nicely. Hard not to drink now, but better in 2024 and onwards." 94 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

"A blend of equal parts Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2018 Il Borgo is a renewed wine with this vintage. Past editions saw a blend of mostly Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon in a supporting role. This release is softer on the mid-palate with darkly extracted fruit. The wine reveals dark cherry, spice and hints of bittersweet chocolate that give it a very contemporary, accessible personality. Fruit is sourced from across 40 hectares of vine." 92 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2023

Podere Il Palazzino Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Grosso Sanese 2016, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Chianti Classico, Tuscany

"Il Palazzino's Chianti Classico Grosso Sanese is often one of the great wines of Chianti Classico, as it is once again in 2016. Dark, somber and explosive, the 2016 possesses off the charts intensity to match its brooding personality. Black cherry, scorched earth, tobacco, licorice and incense hit the palate. Deep and layered in the glass, the 2016 is super-impressive. What a wine. Il Palazzino is, inexplicably, one of the most under-the-radar estates in all of Chianti Classico. Alessandro and Andrea Sderci craft, rich, large-scaled Chianti Classicos that capture all of the natural intensity of Monti in Chianti, where the estate is located. Readers who have not tasted these wines owe it to themselves to do so." 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico 2021, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Chianti Classico, Tuscany

"The 2021 Chianti Classico is gorgeous. Bright and punchy, the 2021 races across the palate with lively red-toned fruit, dried flowers, minerals and cedar. Vibrant acids lend energy to a Chianti Classico that marries fruit intensity with energy. This is such an inviting wine." 92 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"An intense red, with saturated black cherry and blackberry fruit framed by menthol and tar aromas and flavors. Firmly structured and balanced, in its youthful way, with excellent length. A little aeration helps, so decant now. Sangioveto and Canaiolo." 92 Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator

Antinori Rosso di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne 2020, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany

"The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is dark yet perfumed, with lavender and violet tones giving way to masses of ripe plum and cherry. Balsam herbs and hints of chalk develop with time in the glass, adding further depths. This is silky and round, with juicy acidity enlivening its ripe red and hints of blue fruit. Sweet spices, hints of cocoa and licorice linger, as the 2020 tapers off long with just a hint of fine tannin. This showboat of a Rosso is going to win a lot of hearts." 90, Eric Guido, Vinous.com

"Bright, scintillating ruby red color. Fresh raspberry, pomegranate, and some mint on the nose. Precise, fresh berry fruit on the palate, showing perky tannins; very drinkable." 91 Falstaff Magazin

Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"This is a beautiful, fresh 2017 Brunello with fine tannins and a medium body of cherry, bark, cedar and pine-needle flavors. It’s long and polished with ultra-fine tannins and fresh acidity. Nicely done for the vintage. Drink or hold." 94 James Suckling

"Tenute Silvio Nardi is an estate worth visiting. It occupies one of the most extreme locations in the appellation, tucked away into the hills north of the town in a wild no-man's-land of its own. Once you get there, there is a cozy, warm feeling, with vineyards carved out of the surrounding Mediterranean shrub oaks and forests. If you taste forest floor, button mushroom and wild flowers in the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino, you could easily imagine this magical place. This is a silky, mid-weight Brunello with a cool-climate character (which is preserved despite the hot vintage). An ample 114,000 bottles are hitting the market now." 93 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Le Potazzine Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"Aromas of crushed mint, pressed rose and perfumed berry mingle with warm spice in this dazzling red. Thanks to some of the highest vineyard altitudes in the denomination, it boasts vibrancy and finesse in its flavors of ripe black cherry, juicy blood orange, licorice and crushed mint. Taut, elegant tannins and fresh acidity keep it balanced and focused." 97 Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

"The ladies of Le Potazzine make a terrific bottle of Brunello, and their high-elevation vineyards are especially important in maintaining freshness in a scorching-hot vintage such as this. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino offers a pretty succession of wild berry, cherry and plum aromas, along with light spice, crushed flowers and perfumed potting soil. This wine is also distinguished by a touch of bay leaf and maybe a warmer note of cured tobacco as well. This is an impressive effort." 95 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Salvioni La Cerbaiola Brunello di Montalcino 2010, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"One of the many highlights in this vertical, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is exceptionally beautiful. Today, the 2010 comes across as refined and polished, with veins of bright acidity that give the wines its sense of energy, drive and polish. Over the last few months, the 2010 has begun to close in on itself. I can't say that is surprising given how much stuffing there is. Readers lucky enough to own the 2010 are in for a real treat. When all is said and done, the 2010 is profound and riveting in every way. The Salvioni family and their wines embody the essence of what makes artisan Brunello so special. Totally hand made, from the vineyard to the cellar and into the bottle, these wines have much more in common with the great reds of Piedmont and Burgundy than they do with the vast majority of what comes out of Montalcino these days. Up until a few years ago, labeling was still done by hand because the cellar was not equipped with power outlets that could handle modern equipment. Production is miniscule, which means bottles disappear from the market as quickly as they arrive. This wine was tasted as part of a complete vertical held in February 2016." 98 Antonio Galloni, Vinous
