"Yannick and Benoît Amirault’s 2018 St. Nicolas de Bourgueil “la Source” is another ripe
and very promising wine in the making. It offers up a beautifully deep core of fruit on both the
47 nose and palate, with its aromatic constellation composed of black cherries, cigar wrapper, dark soil tones, espresso, woodsmoke and a hint of tree bark up high. On the palate the wine is fullbodied and rock solid at the core, with firm, very well-integrated tannins, lovely focus and grip and a long, nascently complex and promising finish. In some vintages, St. Nicolas de Bourgueil can be a bit more structurally rustic than straight Bourgueil, but in the 2018 vintage, this is certainly not true of the la Source bottling from the Amirault family." |
