"The 2018 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is showing superbly, wafting from the glass with an outgoing bouquet of dark berries, violets, blood orange, licorice and smoked meats. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a textural attack, powdery tannins and ripe acids, concluding with a pure and expansive finish. Patenôtre destemmed some clusters that still displayed green stems—mostly, he tells me, originating from younger vines—and macerated for some 15 days with, as usual, a submerged cap. The wine was raised in foudres and cement tank, and it's as classic an example of the appellation as readers can hope to find." |
